JB Tl Posts: 3 United Kingdom | Posted - 1/22/2002 12:00:49 PM I've bought a new £com V92 external 5630B modem and installed it on my win98 se. Whenever i connect to the net now, where as i used to get somewhere in the vicinity of 45000bps all i get now is about 36000. Ive tried using the +ms=v90 but even after restarting pc it comes up with the port open thingy in the diagnostics and obviously wont dial in IE. Happens in both my ISP's. Ive tried using the control center to check for latest firmware and driver updates and it says everything is upto date. Can anyone else think of anything else to do to regain those extra 10000bps im missing out on. Btw none of my isp's are v92 compatible. |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 1/22/2002 5:10:40 PM Hard to judge the modem by the initial connect speed, your other modem may have been making a high initial connect speed but then falling back to the speed you're connecting at now. Best to compare the throughput, download speeds. The majority of USR modems don't respond to the +MS command and apparently you are connecting with V.90 since 36000bps is a V.90 speed. Might post the Link Diagnostics taken in Hyperterminal after disconnecting from the internet. See http://modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.htm for setting up Hyperterminal In Hyperterminal issue ati6i7i11 and post the results. Might also see http://modemsite.com/56k/diag3com.htm |

JB Tl Posts: 3 United Kingdom | Posted - 1/24/2002 1:40:48 PM Looks totally wrong to me personally, but i followed the instructions to the letter and did it several times. All with the same results. I cant test the old throughput data rate on the old modem (Rockwell v90 k56 voice fax modem, ISA ) cos it went belly up, but the throughput on this was typical of a conection of about 36,000 bps (at least thats what the test site said.) Anyone recommend a decent modem for gamers, just incase Currys will take this back. Its not just the slow connect speed, but my ingame oing has risen by about 60 - 70 now too.

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 1/24/2002 5:42:27 PM The diagnostics don't have any data. You need to do them after a session with an ISP, and you must set up Hyperterminal to connect directly to the COM port as described at www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.htm to prevent the data from being zero'd out. Aloha! Richard. |

JB Tl Posts: 3 United Kingdom | Posted - 1/25/2002 11:14:27 AM I've done it many times m8 and followed the instructions to the letter but it always comes up with the same results as above, done both the ATI ones mentioned above with the same results. I'm not dumb by the way so thats not the problem |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 1/25/2002 12:45:28 PM It appears that you may be dialing out using Hyperterminal, which is the incorrect thing to do. After disconnecting from an internet, start the Hyperterminal session and first issue ate1 (may be entered blindly so be sure to enter it correctly) then issue ati6i11y11 (no dialing involved). |
