Hiya,

Here's the history of my problem. Couple of weeks back, a high voltage entered the phone line and zapped my modem. So I got another working modem and it gave an error that there was no dial-tone.

So I says to myself, get a new modem. So I get me a new internal modem (PCI 56kbps). This time it gave me a Port Already Open error. Hmm. Perhaps there could be an IRQ conflict. There isn't. It got installed at COM3. There wasn't any other back ground programs running. I figure there must be some registry problem and until now haven't thought about the telephon.ini file scenario. Anyways, I reinstall my OS (it's Windows NT service Pack 4). And.... still the same error.

Now, I'm not sure if my mother board is gone. But before I give it for servicing has anyone come across this problem? I reheally wanna fix this prob.

Thanks a lot!

The actual DUNS error is 633: The port is already in use or is not configured for Remote Access dialout.

The old modem may not be uninstalled properly.
Check Add/Remove programs;
Check Control Panel->Modems;
Check Control Panel->System->Device Manager.

Completely remove all modems and start over.

What kind of modems did you have in the machine before, and what kind do you have now?

Aloha! Richard.

My first modem was an external 33.6KBPS BOCA modem. I now have a motorola chipset 56 kbps internal modem. Don't forget, I reinstalled my OS after trying out the DUN after another working modem!

Yes, I guess my prior suggestions not relevant - sorry.

Motorola SM56 is one of the worst choices you could make for a modem.
www.modemsite.com/56k/sm56.htm

quote:

The Motorola SM56 is available as Data/Fax, or Data/Fax/Voice, and will not operate without a driver designed specifically for your operating system. Supported Operating Systems include: Win9x,Me, and 2K. Windows NT and Linux are supported only on the Data/Fax model.

If you don't have the Data/Fax without voice model, forget it with NT. If you do, you may not be installing the modem correctly...

Aloha! Richard.

I think i have a similar problem. My SM56 speaker phone stopped working afetr I decided to format and resintall my PC (win98, 64RAM, K6-2 233MHz). I got 3 things now: the PC restarts when i try to communicate with the modem; Fatal Errors Blue Screen (Vxd 0D or Vxd 0E); or "Cannot open the Communication Port" windows message. This one doesnt make me reboot the machine.

You solved your problem already? What you say about mine?? Thanks! [ocarinhah@yahoo.com] is easier to talk with me...

Im easier found at [ocarinhah@yahoo.com]
