*@!

To Forum 56 ( USR ),

I am looking to buy a better modem very soon.

I already have a 3Com USR
Internal ISA 56K Voice Faxmodem
Model No. 5685 ( Part No. 005685-00 ).

What I want is a Internal PCI 56K modem
that is CONTROLLER based, and
NOT a SOFTmodem / WINmodem.

And want to stay with 3Com USR.

I wish I could find a 3Com USR
56K PCI Faxmodem
MODEL NUMBER 5610A
( 3CP5610A )
"56K Performance Pro Modem"
available somewhere for purchase.
It seems to be not in stock/out of stock
anywhere that it is mentioned.
And that's the exact wording
on the product box
"56K Perfomance Pro Modem"
Again Model number 5610A
(WITH an "A" at the end).

Also, very confusing is the following....
I have already seen in stores
a 3Com USR
56K PCI Faxmodem
MODEL NUMBER 5610
WITHOUT THE "A" at the end
of the model number.
( 3CP5610 )
What's on the box is just
"56K PCI Faxmodem"

Are these different modems
or the same?

The one I do see in stores now,
model # 5610 ( 3CP5610 )
"56K PCI Faxmodem"
isn't even referenced at all
at the http://www.3com.com/' TARGET='_blank'>http://www.3com.com/ website!

The one that is listed at the
http://www.3com.com/' TARGET='_blank'>http://www.3com.com/ website
Model # 5610A ( 3CP5610A )
"56K Performance Pro Modem"
Is out of stock at 3Com
and has to be pre-ordered
at the few sellers sites that mention it at all.

Is it still that new and not out yet?

I also like the line probing technology.

Why does 3Com list it at their site
when it is not available? (3CP5610A)

When will it be available? (3CP5610A)

Why do they NOT list a current product
of theirs that is in the stores now?
(3CP5610)

Very strange.

Very confusing.

Are they the same? Or not?

What is the difference between the two?

Is the 3Com USR modem
model number 5610A (3CP5610A)
somehow better than
the 3Com USR modem
model number 5610 ? (3CP5610) ?

Or should I not bother to wait for
the model number 5610A
and just get the model number 5610
now, when I can?

Thank You very much.

Sincerely,

Lawrence Connor.

P.S.

I had to make many attempts at registering and posting unsucessfully before I requested my password, as if I forgot it, to try to figure out the problem.
Only to find out it was limited to ten characters,
even though it took more than that number, and appeared to accept all the characters I inputted for my password, and without any given indication of a password limit to ten characters.
Hello???

3Com has sold its USR modem division to offshore companies and retains a minority interest.

No doubt, these reoganizational changes are affecting the product..... They may also affect your ongoing support and satisfaction into the future.....

As far as model #s & what they are - confusing isn't it! I'd suggest news://comp.dcom.modems as someone there may be more familiar with the USR model #s.

Aloha,
Richard

Hello Larry,
I just got off the phone with USR and it turns out that 3cp5610 is a winmodem. I currently have a 5610 which is also listed 005610, but I need five more 5610 modems if possible.

I just bought that exact model #3CP5610A at Best Buy, so you might give them a try. I have had it since @-12-01. I'm trying to find some tweaks for it because it disconects at late night on me or occasionly I get a very low 21000bps but normally get 44000bps on it.

I've purchased an OEM "USR pci hardware modem" from a local supplier here in the great state of Utah (USA) for about $53.00 this modem performs very well on a the crap phone line that I have. I'm seeing 44000 bps all the time.
If you would like the link to my suppliers web page I can be contacted at stuckhere@worldnet.att.net

I would not recommend buying Performance Pro 3CP5610A PCI modem. I am having this stuff for a last 6 months and have never experienced any reliable connection.
No to mention I cannot sent any faxes from PC. I have exchanged initially bought modem with replacement, but it performes crappy. Their tech support is just useless, they do not provide support via e-mail, only over the phone from 0800 till 0700 MTS. Tech guys are not even interested in diagnostics info, they just throwing general suggestions, like 'call telephone company', 'reinstall windows' etc.
Right now I am using old ISA teleport Pro, which I bought 4 years ago and still performs excellent, I should not have gone for expensive and crappy USR 'Performance Pro'
