i am always attempting to improve connect/pings for my 5610a modem...one tweak i heard of was checking com port settings.windows default is 9600bps i think . the suggestion was to increase this setting.problem is com 5 is not listed in device mgr or in win.ini folder. have winme.how do i do this if com5 is not listed? thanks

For virtual ports like COM5, I don't think the setting makes any difference.

If you want to set it anyway, I think you can get at it through the Modems control panel - go to Properties.

What com port is listed for your modem? You can go to the device manager,+port,high light the com port your modem is on,properties,port setting and set it to 115200 and click OK.Post a modem log.Go to +modem,high light your modem,properties,modem and check what port,go to the maximum speed and set it to 115200.
