SamIAm Tl Posts: 3 USA | Posted - 2/5/2002 2:20:45 PM I bought an ActionTec 56k PCMCIA card for my Toshiba laptop and get this error when I try to dial in. Is this a com port problem? |
SamIAm Tl Posts: 3 USA | Posted - 2/5/2002 2:35:39 PM Sorry, I posted this in the wrong place...this modem has a Lucent chipset...but I could use anyone's help here anyway, since I experienced error 630 with my last PCMCIA modem, a Zoom, so I'm sure it's not an error specific to one type of modem. |

SamIAm Tl Posts: 3 USA | Posted - 2/6/2002 10:16:07 AM The latest time that I installed this modem: When the laptop was up and running I put the card into the slot, heard the beep, the install new hardware dialogue popped up, followed the usual procedure, and loaded the driver that I got from the ActionTec site. An aside: is there such a thing as com5? I thought I noted that the modem was on com5 once, when it actually dialed out. Now it says com2. This change may have happened at the time that I installed the downloaded driver- originally I used what came on the CD that came with the modem, but device manager listed the modem as a generic-type modem, so I figured that a more up-to-date driver might help its performance. With the new driver device manager identifies it as an ActionTec. How do I change the com port,-thought I could set it to com5 and see if it works. Thanks |
