Although it communicates with the PC okay it seems to be dead so far as the phone line is concerned. I live in the UK. Here's an ATI7- ati7 Product type UK External Supervisor date 12/02/98 Supervisor rev 044-7.6.7 Serial Number 21OZDB773TH8 OK The problem is that I get a "No Dial Tone" error when I try to use DUN or indeed in HyperTerminal if I enter ATD or ATDT. I've tried connecting the modem directly to the phone socket with three different cables (all known good and tested with other modems). Two other modems (Lucent Mars and USR V.34 Sportster) dial out with no problems. If I try to connect with the Courier with "Wait for Dial Tone" disabled it audibly dials and makes a repeated beeping from its speaker but if I have a phone connected and pick it up while this is going on I get a normal dial tone and can't hear the Courier over the line. An ATI4 includes this information for what it's worth- I have dip switch 3, 5 and 8 down which are the defaults. I've tried different port speeds and so forth with no luck. Is this modem a goner or have I missed something? TIA |
procerus Tl Posts: 26 United Kingdom | Posted - 2/14/2002 10:12:32 AM I should point out that this unit is second-hand. I don't have any call waiting service enabled. A final odd thing is that the power supply that came with the unit is marked "7.5VDC 1000mA". However the replacement units you can get from USR from here for the xx0955 model Couriers- So additionally can anyone confirm what voltage this power supply should be? Matt |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 2/14/2002 8:48:08 PM The power supply on all the Couriers are AC. I forget offhand the voltage, but it's not critical as the modem does AC-DC conversion and voltage regulation; different Couriers have come with different AC voltages, but I think the older ones (you have an older one - 20mhz clock) came with 18VAC. Using a DC power supply could definitely be a problem, it's surprising it works at all; and, it's possible that the wrong power has damaged the on/off hook circuit... Aloha! Richard. |

procerus Tl Posts: 26 United Kingdom | Posted - 2/20/2002 1:34:34 PM Hi nika, the modem would tone dial (at least it made the right noises from its speaker) if I told it not to wait for dial tone. But since it never went off hook it was never actually dialing down the phone line. Anyway I've returned it and got a refund so all's well! |
sbradley Tl Posts: 1 USA | Posted - 4/10/2002 5:11:01 PM In case anyone else has a problem like this one, I can tell you that the power supply must be AC or DC of 12v or greater and at least 750mA or greater. Ideally, 20VAC at 800mA are needed for them. I have seen problems where the modem does not correctly function because the voltage OR current is too low. Either one can cause problems. Ie, Sportster power supplies will not run older Couriers (although they will run a few newer ones, strange!). Steven |
