tensingpen Tl Posts: 3 | Posted - 3/3/2002 8:17:47 PM Thanks always to Charles and Bob for maintaining this site. a) I have an old P2 233MMX and just installed a 3Com USR OEM 56K Sportster Model 0460 ID 661787. I want to download v.90 drivers however have had some difficulty locating the download site specifically for this modem. Can you direct me to the correct address? b)Is this a winmodem? c)When installing the modem with WIN98 I entered it as a US Robotics 56K modem on the drop down menu. Initially Modem Diagnostics identified it correctly as "Sportster 56k Data" Identifier UNIMODEM 3FCFDA15.I had no problem dialling-up. Suddenly, for some strange reason, every time I dial-up for connection the Sportster is not recognized and I have to re-install the modem to dial-up. I can't understand why this is happening. Now I am concerned that this problem may affect the flashing of the modem if it is not identified as installed? Messages indicate: "Fail to connect to remote computer. Could not detect modem." and "Error 630 The computer is not receiving a response from the modem. Check if installed" Just as I was about to post this message, I had to dial-up to connect and the message appeared " Failed to connect to remote computer. Could not detect modem." I appreciate your comments.

charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 3/3/2002 11:26:57 PM Make sure the modem is down in the slot all the way. Here is manual in pdf formatt. ftp://ftp.usr.com/oem/manuals/modem/English/1787%20and%201749/ISA%20Modem.pdf If this modem is set for PNP you need to remove the modem drivers, check the device manager and remove any modems that are listed and unknown device, reboot and when windows finds new hardware point it to the drivers. When you see this screen, Windows has detected the modem. Click Next. Make sure the “Search for the best driver for your device” option is checked. Then click Next. When you see the following screen point windows to were the drivers are. The next screen tells you that Windows I would shut down and power off the tower for a few minutes that power back up. charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 3/4/2002 12:28:19 AM Yes this is a hardware modem and can be PNP or non PNP.Also check in the dial up folder, right click your connection icon, properties and make sure you modem is listed in the connect using window. |
tensingpen Tl Posts: 3 | Posted - 3/4/2002 5:13:39 PM Thank you all for your help. When I first installed the modem in the slot all the way, and turned my PC on I got a normal desktop screen. There was no indciation that windows had detected a new modem. So I used the add new hardware wizard to install the modem. Is letting windows detect the modem the correct way to install - or does it make any difference?

SARGE Tl Posts: 743 USA | Posted - 3/4/2002 7:14:59 PM I've done it both ways many times. Sometimes "Plug & Pray" doesn't recognize new hardware at boot-up. |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 3/5/2002 1:36:35 AM If this modem it set to PNP by the jumpers it should be installed by windows. Go to the add/remove program and remove all modem driver,go the device manager and remove all modems listed or unknown device, other device.Go to the control panel, double click the modem icon and remove all modem listed.shut down, power off, power up and windows should find new hardware and point it to the drivers. Read the manual on how to install a nonPNP modem. Also has the jumper settings for setting the modem to PNP.Also are you using any modem strings in extra setting?
