Whenever I run a traceroute my ping to the first hop is 110-130. Is this normal for dialup? Is there any way to lower that? I can ping a game server that I use and get a ping of 180, of which 110 or so is the first hop. Everything after the first is relatively small increments.

The first hop is your ISP. Mine is even worse. I posted a fragment of my TRACERT log on a 52K connect with throughput 50:

Well mine comes and goes I guess, heres 3 of the 6 hops to a gaming server I play on regularly.

1 99 ms nas1.columbia2.sc.us.da.qwest.net [63.152.3.162]

etc

I guess it could be worse but I was hoping I could cut that first one down a bit.
