I HAVE ASKED MANY QUESTION AND READ MUCH! BUT I CAN NOT FIND HOW TO GET MY MODEM TO WORK AT V90. IT IS ALWAYS WORKING AT V34, ALTHOUGH IT SHOWS IN MODEM CHECK THAT ITS OPTIONS ARE V34+, X2, V90. I HAVE DOWNLOADED THE LATEST INF FILE: MDM3COMINF I THINK. WINDOWS PICKED THIS INF OVER THE OLDER ONE IN DRIVER UPDATE.

PRODUCT ID: 66178781
MODEL: 1787
FLASH DATE: 02/24/98
FLASH VERSION: 4.7.32

I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A 5.0 VERSION NOW! HOW DO I GET THAT AND FLASH IT?

HOW CAN I GET MY MODEM TO WORK AT V90?

THANKS!

BILL

Bill have you ever got a V90 connect speed at your house such as 38666 bps,41333 bps,45333 bps...ect with any modem? The modem will only connect what the phone line can handle. If you try to force it to connect at a higher speed than the line can handle it will not connect. You can try &U17&N37
This is speeds for V90 &U17 28000 minimum speed
&N37 54666 bps this will force the modem to connect bewteen these speed but if cannot handle these speed it will not connect. The best way to check if your problem is the modem, isp or phone line would be to take the pc to a friends house that gets a good connect speed.

Flashing to new firmware:

I wouldn't recommend it. USR's flashing algorithm is highly bugged, and my give you a PCI paperweight! In fact, I've read many posts, EVEN AT FORUM56, of people who flashed and lowered their connect speed from 49333 to 21600!

Working at V90:

The INF file makes no difference in a modem, since this is a hardware modem. Try the modem at a few different houses; Try the neighbors, and/or friends.

Listen to the handshake. Are you getting a "double-handshake"?
