Man I need some help, Has anyone configured this modem to work PROPERLY on a V92 line?? I have tried via the control panel to no avail. When I do a diagnostic on it it tells me I am connecting @ V90 sometimes V90/V34. My MOH does not work or CID. Although I have contacted USR techies they are absolutly no help, I have contacted techs @ ISP, they are no help. I have configured settings in the control panel to spec defaults, I have tinkered with it .DAMN, any help would be much appreciated, I thought for $70.00 this modem would just be insert and take off, I guess I have my idiot moments. All drivers up to date USR5610bw date:8-17-01 ver. 5.22.40.0,,,,,,,,,,,MOH is up to date as is Control Panel, Also, although in Device Manager shows "USR V92 fax" Hyper Term shows "USR 56K " THANKx HAWK

I would suggest starting with Hyperterminal for testing -
AT&F1
will set modem to factory high-speed defaults;
V.92/V.44-related command info is at
www.modemsite.com/56k/v92c.asp
although USR may not be fully documented there?
(Also - I saw somewhere that newer USR modem firmware doesn't include the help screens - can you check this in Hyperterminal -
ATs?
AT&?
etc.

Hyperterminal should allow you to manually do MoH by connecting to ISP, issuing +++ to go to command mode, and issuing MoH AT commands when a call comes in.

It will also allow you to look at the diagnostic screens which can give you clue to V.90/V.34 speeds & line conditions
www.modemsite.com/56k/diag3com.asp

As to reporting V92 connect - many V.92 modems don't report V.92 unless V.92 PCM upstream is negotiated - you could have a V.92/MoH-capable connection but the modem reports V.90 [modulation].

Aloha! Richard.

I also am having too much trouble with USR5610b. My mothers Celeron is running Win/ME and the modem died. I also purchased the usr5610b and installed it. It works great!! for about 4-5 mins and then loses the connection. Every time. While trying to download updated software from USR, it takes 3 tries to download a 454mb program. Each time, the connection is lost and must be manually terminated and re-connected. The connection is then lost etc., etc., etc...
Why would it connect initially and then stop after downloading approx 1.5mb of data ? I'm no computer genius but like HAWK, I thought I could insert, load software, and be off and running but noooooo, CAN ANYONE HELP ?????

Fred, like you say, that modem gives great speed ,BUT I could not keep a connection, I was on the horn with thier techies 6 or 7 times over a 2 week period and they did squat to help, they were telling me to disable MOH and CallerID, I told them "What the hell do you think I bought and paid $75.00 bucks for, all they told me is to take it back, this was the second one I freakin' bought and told them that,,,,,, the moral of my story is ,I stuck it in my draw and it will be going in the next custom built puter this week, I have 2 to build. I purchased the modem(Great Price) on the Modemsite Home page, and I will tell you, you will not need any other, I just installed and am very happy with it, price and quality, speed 45.3k AND like I said I wanted......... Insert and OFF-YOU-GO ! Take back that USR (opinion not a demand,LLOOLLL) Good luck HAWK PS if you still want to play with it, I gather all my info that the USR techies gave me(not much)send me an e-mail

xHAWKx you say
was getting 28.8k now 45.3k
Some modem will try to connect at the highest speed and the phone can not handle this speed. You might try limiting the connect speed down some for a more stable speed. Might also try adding s10=200 AND/OR s25=100 to extra setting.

s10 increases the lost carrier hang up delay.
s25 increases the length of time that the modem will ignore the DTR signal before it takes actions specified by other portions of the init (usually follows the &Dn command, which is normally set to disconnect if the DTR signal is lost from detection).

Have you tested your connection with ati6 or ati11 in Hyperterminal.

Charles, I went from 28.8k when I first installed it after re-installing the S/W I jumped up to 45.3k I have had faster connection speeds with no problems (V90)before up to 52k. I am no longer using this modem, I switched over to the ModemSite V92 I followed up here ,because Fred&Robin are having similar problems. Thanks Charles

Thanks you guys for the replies on my post. I have had a 2 week headache beating my head against this darn USR modem. I will turn this piece of junk into a target and I will NEVER EVER buy a USR product again and will try not to let anyone I know buy one either. Perhaps a boycott of USR is in order nationwide. Thanks again for the help and I will order the modemsite modem and continue to support them. Thanks again and Happy days for all. Later, Fred & Robin.

Richard, Charles just look around and they are always there to help !!! Well, I build 'puters for a hobbie make a couple of bucks, and pals get a quality built machine with a personal touch, someone is soon to get a $80.00 USR 5610b modem for zilch !Guess that says a lot about thier product, BUT, yet again I am the idiot who bought it,LOL, so much for their rep and techies, I learned more about thier modem here at ModemSite, than I did talking to those "Technical Helpers" LLOL

One problem you will find with alot of modem makers is that they try to upgrade their modem with only software and use one of their old modems then give it another name. This can be done to a point but with changes like V92 some modems do not have the hardware for the change.USR has made a back slide in support and their modems.I think you will be happy with the modem from Richards site.
