| TEDDYWILKK Tl Posts: 1 USA | Posted - 1/28/2003 4:20:46 AM    working on a compaq deskpro 6000 pII. installed a 3Com 56k, on windows boot it detects the modem and installs it. when i go to device manager its not there under modem but at the top of the list as a %PortsClassName% in sys information it shows it to be on irq 9. Ive tried to remove it and put it on com2 or com1 but on reboot it gets installed back to same place. HELP TED |
| charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 1/28/2003 9:11:35 AM Have you tried another slot or disable the com port in the bios.Also go to safe mode and check the device manager for more than one modem entry,remove modem drivers from the add remove,check the device manager and remove any modems listed,remove all com ports that are listed,reboot to windows.If there is another modem in this pc remove it also from the pc.You check the reg also if a modem is staying listed that is not in this pc that might be holding the com port.Run regedit look under Local Machine,enum,pci and see if there is other modem listed there.If there was another modem in this pc as was not remove right windows might think it is still there.
