What's the difference between the black and white version of USR's v.92 external modems? I know they used to sell white v.90 that was upgradeable to v.92, but it didn't say v.92 upgrablable on the box. Then they started to sell white modems that say only v.92. Then quite later on, they have black v.92. I don't get it, are the black ones are the real v.92? Also, what chip does USR use for their external modems?

Not sure, but would expect that the inside of the modem is basically the same as prior ones -
USR uses a 'generic' DSP made by Texas Instruments. USR writes the software for the DSP, so I call it a USR chipset. (Unlike Agere, PCTel, Conexant who make DSPs and software sold as a modem-building solution to OEMs, TI does not offer a DSP plus software.)
