a couple of days ago I changed my Norton Anti virus program from 2002 professional to 2003 basic. Ever since it was installed my dialup connection automatically starts when I turn on my computer, and that had not ever previously happened. how can I fix that?

Is there some auto update feature? I know that my Trend PC-Cillin would try to connect if "Intelligent Update" was selected. If that fails you may want to check the startup programs in msconfig.exe

Cheers

You can also use ZoneAlarm firewall (or others) to prevent certain applications from accessing the internet

Also check your startup folder for any icons for this product. Also click ctrl, alt, delete to see what is running in the background.Make sure you do not trojan on this sytem.

Might check this also.

Unchecking "Check for publisher's certifcate revocation" in IE controls

One more thing to check

Select START/RUN, type MSCONFIG in the 'Open' box and press enter. When SCU
opens, click the 'System.ini' tab. Next expand the boot entry at the top of
the list. Look at the line shell=Explorer.exe...... If the line shows as
shell=Explorer.exe openme.exe, highlight the entry and click the 'Edit' button.
Now edit the line to read shell=Explorer.exe, click 'Apply' then 'OK' and
reboot when prompted.

I would first check in Norton Anti virus program for an option to turn off auto updates. You can stop this program from running by removing the program check mark under msconfig, startup and reboot to see if the problem stops. If it stops then I would be looking in the programs setup for any auto updates setup. Be sure to put the check mark back in the start up list because you do want this program on start up.

Good info
