hello. hope you can help.

98se, 450mmx, diamond supramax modem(about 2 years old) with updated driver(i think, no way to verify). new/updated NORTON =didn't help.

my problem is :
i got new access #'s from my isp(didn't have this problem before this), stipfire.net. since then, about 2-3 weeks, i keep geting kicked off for no apparent reason. the first time is allways 4-10 minutes after first logon. then it varies after that = could be 10 mins, anywhere up to never. but normally around 1/2-1 hr.

one day i ran scandisc and online scan at PCPITSTOP.com. this fixed it the next time i loged on = over 3hrs online = no problems = thought it was fixed. no it wasn't. the next logon was back to the same ol problems.

any suggestions ???

You need to determine what is causing disconnect.
Check/copy/post modem log -
www.modemsite.com/56k/modemlog.asp

and post-call diagnostics -
www.modemsite.com/56k/diag.asp

What speed are you connecting at?
Try disabling 56k or limiting connect speed -
www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-linklimit.asp
www.modemsite.com/56k/ms.asp

Aloha! Richard.

Looks like this is a HCF modem. Do you have netwaiting install with this modem?
Might try limiting the connection down some.Try this in extra settings.
+MS=V92,0,,,,46667

You can find info on modem in the control panel, double click the modem icon, more info.
Bypass all connections to line splitters, surge protectors, answering machines, Caller ID boxes, or fax machines
This would be the model of the modem SUP2751

Found some drivers here.

"Do you have netwaiting install with this modem?"
i don't know.

"Might try limiting the connection down some.Try this in extra settings.
+MS=V92,0,,,,46667"
i will try that

"Bypass all connections to line splitters, surge protectors, answering machines, Caller ID boxes, or fax machines"
nothing of this sort has changed in a few years. but i will disconnect everything to see what happens.

remember. this problem started right when i got new access #'s. some said maybe they have new modems that don't work well with mine. I have SBC, a new company in town. SBC has been known to screw their customers, i'm having issues with them now(billing). i'm thinking they have software that causes problems like this, so i will upgrade, or cut down on dialup useage. but really, i think i have some kind of bug that i can't find.

if cars were like computers = there would be a lot less on the road.

let me try those new links now.

......................

please help me, before i go crazy :)

Check your driver version that is install, the driver on the web page may be the same version. Were you making a V92 connection before?
http://modemsite.com/56k/rockv92.asp

Might also disable call waiting.
Go to find and see if you have Netwaiting.ini or netwait.ini

What happens if you use
+MS=V34
for init string.

+MS=V90
?

The problem you were having was with a V92 connection so with the +MS=V90 forces the modem to connect V90. This could be a problem with the modems software or the ISP having problem with the V92 servers. Might call them and see if they have another number for V92.Your modem well try to connect first to V92 then if there is a problem it will retrain down to V90 then to V34. V92 is new and some isp are still having problem setting it up.This could be a problem with part of V92 like V44 compression, quick connect,PCM Upstream.

Post a modem log without the string and one with the string.
