I'm trying to dial in to a system that utilizes quick-connect modems (by MultiTech, with special firmware) and I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience utilizing standard modems to connect to something like this?

From what I can gather, the MultiTechs don't really negotiate like a standard modem, so it takes only a couple of seconds for another quick-connect modem to be connected. What I'm finding is that a regular modem wants to spend time negotiating after the connection and I'm looking for a way to reduce that.

Btw, the modem I'm using on my end uses a Cirrus chipset MD56xx. I've used the +MS commands to set the speed settings to 1200bps and it is connecting OK.
1200bps, you say! Yes, sometimes "faster" isn't always faster, depending on the application.

Cheers!

Are talking about quick connect with a V92 modem and connection?

Are you making a V92 connection and what model modem do you have.

No, not V92. V22. It's a Trendnet TFM-560x I'm using to connect to the host. I'm trying to shave seconds off the connect time, but after messing with it this weekend, I don't think I'll get it any faster than 7-10 seconds.

I've found a few modems that offer a quick connect feature (not the v.92 proposal) like StarComm and HDT Technologies, but it's not clear whether this is a standard or if each company is implementing the quick connect proprietarily in hardware.

Charles: Thanks for the link..interesting reading on that site.

After looking at the Trendnet TFM-560x modem I think there talking about the V92 Quick connect. What modem string are you using? What OS also?

Note the
S6* Wait before dialing 2 is default might change it to 1 or 0 in extra setting.Also could add X3 and turn off wait for dial tone.
S11* DTMF dialing speed 70 is default
S37* Max line speed attempted 5 is 1200
This string would be for the TFM-560x
X3S6=1S11=200S37=5
