Sometimes my SV92P modem won't connect. When I try to "Query the Modem" I get the message "The port that modem is attached could not be opened. This may be the result of a hardware conflict. Check the device manager to verify all devices are functional". I have checked the device manager, and nothing is sharing, and everything is functional.

Now for the really strange part... I have found that if I uninstall the modem from add/remove programs, then install the drivers from the CD (version 2.1.4), the modem works PERFECTLY. I can then "update" the drivers to 2.1.34 (or 2.1.35) by running the "LTSetup.exe" program, and everything works, however, when I restart the computer, I get the error message above when I use the "Query Modem" function.

Sometimes I don't recieve this error, and everything works fine for a while, then when dialing I'll recieve the error that it can't find the modem. It seems to be quite sporadic.

The modem is from Lectron, model I56LVP-A5.
I have a AMD Athlon 2400+ on a Asus A7N8X-X (Nforce 2 400 chipset), latest BIOS (1007) and latest NForce drivers.

Thanks for any help.

It seemed to me like the driver wouldn't install properly (even tried downloading again)..., also checked that the relevent PCI ID was in the .inf file, so I decided to take a "quick and dirty" approach, I installed the 2.1.4 drivers, tested to make sure it worked, then copied over the agrsm.sys and agrsmmsg.exe with the 2.1.35 drivers. Restarted, and so far it looks as though it's working, connected now at a supposed 53.2Kbps.

This would have to be most strange driver/hardware issue I experienced in a very long time!

Any other comments/insight would be appreciated.

Cheers

Windows XP driver protection probably has replaced your replacement back with the originally installed 2.04 driver... Check the actual file sizes / response to at i3 with Hyperterminal...

Agrsmdel.exe - removes the driver - it's part of each driver package. You can remove the \oem drivers for the SVP in your Windows\inf folder; run agrsmdel.exe, and cancel the h/w wizard when you re-boot; then setup using the .34 driver's setup.exe.
You could also try putting the modem in a different PCI slot.

Aloha! Richard.

I've tried this with the 2.1.36 drivers (with .inf file modified to recognise card). The drivers appear to install fine, but fails to open the port.

I also tried installing the 2.1.28 drivers from Lectron (by cards manuracturer) and this appears to work, but I tried to copy the 2.1.28 and the 2.1.4 .inf file over to the 2.1.36 drivers, but this also failed.

The only drivers that will install are the 2.1.4 (or the 2.1.28 drivers, then I can copy and paste the new drivers across.

I did a search and removed the drivers from the "Last known config" list.

This is the error message from the log when I try to query the modem with the other drivers installed with the AGRSMxp.inf :

Have you tried putting the modem is a different PCI Slot?

What COM port is the modem on?

Your problem sound more like a h/w resource assignment conflict problem as opposed to the modem driver...

I am working on getting the .36 driver pkg for SVP - should be available shortly...

Aloha! Richard.
