jtakano Tl Posts: 3 Philippines | Posted - 12/18/2003 5:42:40 AM I have a problem in running modems. I can connect in the internet, my Windows XP Professional w/ SP1 is all right. I even reinstalled it. BUT, after connecting in the internet w/ my 56K modem ( I'm using dial-up and internal 56K modem, by the way), during a few minutes, the connection stops working, I mean it's not blinking and responding (in the taskbar) so I have to disconnect again and reconnect but after a few minutes, it stops responding again. I already tried replacing new modems but the same problem occurs. It's not an ISP problem because my other Windows XP computer works fine. There are also no problems with my telephone line. Is it possible that the problem is in motherboard and I need to replace it? working computer is Pentium 4 and the defective one is Pentium 3. which I think has no connection with modems because the processor just processes instructions, right? CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG! PLEASE, I need help with this and needs to solve it immediately. Tell me if I'll need to buy a new motherboard. OR ANY OTHER SOLUTIONS? |

What chipset and drivers that are installed. If this PC has a network card disable it in the device manager if not using it.Look on the modem card for any info such as the FCCID number.Might try +MS=V34 in extra settings. |
jtakano Tl Posts: 3 Philippines | Posted - 12/19/2003 12:00:39 AM I already have the msblast remover from Symantec and also tried putting the modem on the other slot, but the problem persists. I also hear some noisy dialing on the modem and sometimes that noise takes a long time (shoosh shooooosh shooosoohshso). That kind of sound that takes around 1 minute which is actually too long so I think it's really the motherboard, don't you think? My modems brand is from CNet |

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 12/20/2003 1:10:37 PM The problem is unlikely to be the motherboard - it is more likely the modem, the modem driver and/or your phone line conditions. When you make a regular voice call - how does it sound? Clear? Loud? Soft? Is there any noise in the background? Clicks/pops, etc? Also check your country settings in Control Panel-> Phone & Modem Options -> Edit button. Use Hyperterminal to grab the results of Aloha! Richard. |
Maxwellsmart Tl Posts: 3 USA | Posted - 8/12/2004 4:21:13 PM Please excuse my ignorance, but what is "Country Setting for modems and how does one find it to ck its settings? Many thanks Max |
