What OS are you using? Is this the SUP2920 modem.Whay drivers version do you have installed.

There is a read me file in the drivers on how to install this modem. This is a hcf modem not a hardware modem even if it is usb. What com port is the modem using.I would remove the drivers, remove the modem from the device manager, reboot and when windows finds new hardware point it to the drivers. If still having com port problem might need to disable that port in the device manager or bios.
I do not think this modem will support usb 2.0

For windows xp.
Upgrading your current modem driver:

1. Double click on the HXFsetup.exe file inside "c:\USB HCF Modem". If you see a pop-up window indicates that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing, just select Continue Anyway.
2. Then if the "Add new hardware wizard" asks for the location of the driver, follow the steps below.
3. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click
Next.
4. Then select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." andclick Next.
5. Click on Have Disk.
6. Type "C:\USB HCF Modem" and Click OK.
7. Make sure the device name is called "Generic HCF USB Modem"and click Next.
8. You will get another pop-up message indicates the software has not passed Windows Logo testing again, and you should select Continue Anyway.
9. Click Finish when the installation is completed
Note that conexant has USB HCF Generic Modem drivers

Go to dial up networking, right click the connectoid, properties, check.
Is correct modem selected in the connectoid? Select the correct modem in the connect using window.

May click the update driver tab in the device manager and install the drivers from the diamond site.

charles:) thank you for trying to help me with my external modem, unfortunetly it doesnt work but i have a creative labs pci modem which i uninstalled to make room for the adaptec usb2 connect usb card. is it possible re-install it in another pci slot, but the problem is i have no irq's free for it:( if install it and it grabs my sound card irq or my mouses or some other, is it possible for a pci modem to share an irq with another pci device?? 'sigh' [holding head in hands]my sound card took 5 and 4 irq's the new card took 3 and 4 and 10 irq's i just don't have anymore resources which is why i wanted to use the usb modem.:(

I would boot to safe mode,go to the device manager.Check all hardware listed for more than I listing. Say you click the + next to modem and there are old modems installs or more than one listing of the one that is installed. Also check the add remove program for drivers for old hardware.
What com ports do you have listed in the device manager and what one are you using?Do you have other usb devices that work on this new usb2 card? Are you showing any com ports listed to irq that you are not using? Do you have a nic card installed and not using it?

When you check the irq table is it showing that from 00 to 15 all are listed or is there a number missing, like the table showing 05,07.

Also run regedit,go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum
Go down to pci and check for any sub keys that have old hardware listed that are no longer installed on this pc.

The usb modem problem could have been a com port problem.Might disable all com ports that you are not using and reinstall the modem.Would also remove the old connectoid in the dial up folder and make a new one.

Try this for DUN error 630
1. Search for the telephon.ini file
2. Rename the telephon.ini file to telephon.old
3. Search for tapiini.exe
4. Run the tapiini.exe file by double clicking on the icon.
5. Restart the computer
