When trying to connect with this modem I get error number 775. I get this problem even if I remove the phone cable. I have re-installed the modem and drivers but to no avail. If I connect to the modem using hyperterminal and type ATDT I get a dial tone but if I try to call a number I get the answer RESTRICTED. Any help please? I am using XP.

775 The call was blocked by the remote computer.
Try the number with your phone, can you get the call to work.Remove the connection icon in the dial up folder and make a new one.
Go to Start/Run and type in this command:
netsh int ip reset C:\resetlog.txt
Once this command is typed, a black box will appear and disappear. The computer then should be restarted.
Create a New DUN Connection.
The remote computer may be blocking your connection because of a caller ID rule, a scheduling policy that only allows access during specific times, or another setting.
Could you post a modem log.

Make sure the correct number is being dialed (check area code, etc.)
Make sure the number is not experiencing an outage.
Make sure user is not out of time for the day, etc, if this applies to the ISP.
Try disabling call waiting if the location has call waiting.
Does the number you are dialing from have voice mail? Voice mail can cause this and you will want to check your voicemail. If this becomes a common problem you may wish to reconsider having Voice mail on the number the computer dials from.

Check how you have dialing rules settup. Might need to use this or disable it. Do you have this pc set anyone who uses this computer?

Check the dialing rules in dun properties. This is other isp set up but might help.

Ok now I think I have found the fix since this modem is use to only dial a certain numbers for one isp.The problem is in the drivers and need to install the generic drivers.
Note this post on this problem. There is four pages to this, check them all.

Further to my last message, I have now cracked this setup. Actually Time were not a great deal of help, claiming that the PC was subsidised because of the internet setup, in a similar way that a mobile phone with an airtime contract is cheaper than a sim free one - maybe, maybe not, all I know is I wasn't told this initially.

Anyway, what I did was, in the end, quite simple.

1. Go to the Conexant web site, go to the Driver Support section, and download the driver file for an HSF modem (you'll see what I mean when you get there). Save the file to disc, then unzip it to a place you can find it later.
2. Right click the My Computer icon on your desktop, select Properties, select Hardware, click the Device Manager button.
3. Find the modem in the listing, right click the entry, and select uninstall. Confirm the action in the resulting box.
4. Reboot your PC.
5. On reboot, the PC finds the 'new' hardware, and asks if you want to instal it - say yes, and tell the Wizard where to find the drivers (where you unzipped them to earlier).
6. That's it. The modem now shows as a Generic, as opposed to saying it's a CNXT Vx PCI, or whatever, but it seems to work fine for me. I've already accessed two different ISP's now, with absolutely no issues.

It would help also if you could get the modem ven number or FCCID# from the modem.Check if you modem is the HSF or HCF.Click the agree at the bottom of page, look for xp,pci and HSF or HCF what ever chip set your modem has. The only other way around this would get another modem.
