It's never done better unless I take it to a different location out of this area. I'm across the street from the local phone switching office as well. The phone company says it's the fiber optic lines. driver30 |

When more than one (1) conversion takes place, there is degradation in the quality of the call. Your home phones are analog and the switch at the phone company works on analog signals as well, so any conversion to digital on fiber has to be converted back to analog at the phone company thus resulting in a connection speed NEVER higher than 33.6kbps.

driver30 Tl Posts: 3 USA | Posted - 2/8/2004 8:14:50 PM Thank you very much, that explains it for me. The last time the phone company worked on my line, they said they put me on a separate pair, which runs 100ft into a large switching box. Cable in my future. Guess there's not much that can be done to speed this up...other than cable? I tried a certain string in the modem once, and it would indicate a very high speed, something like 100k, but that was a false reading I believe. |

driver30 Tl Posts: 3 USA | Posted - 2/8/2004 9:17:21 PM Windows ME Since installing ME the modem is shown as Lucent Winmodem, but installed a different brand that I bought at Office Depot. Can't find the box, and forget what it was, V.90 56k I know. And I hope this is the log: It shows 28800k, but test pages show 22k consistently. charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 2/8/2004 9:26:30 PM I would update the drivers to the 8.30 first.Note after you update the drivers the modem will be called agere modem, need to check dial up properties to make the change. |
