I've newly installed W2K and ever since my modem don't work properly. I've installed 2 different drivers, changed the settings to various things. I even reninstalled the whole thing again from scratch. I can't upload to anyone using anything.. now my downloads are affected also. This happens after a few MB have been down/uploaded. My connection is live, but no movement is possible, it just freezes.
Any help would be apreciated..thanks

May be a networking (network settings) and/or connectoid issue -
www.modemsite.com/56k/connectoid.asp

Firewall can also come into play as well as any proxy settings or auto-connect options in various Internet applications you may have installed.
Does the PC has a network card (LAN)? If it is not in use, disable it
www.modemsite.com/56k/nic.asp

When connected, check your connectivity 'beyond the modem'

What model modem do you have? Intel owns Ambient and only make the chipset not the modem. Intel has generic drivers on there site. Do you know the chipset?

Please post a modem log.

Hi & thanks for your responses.

The model no. VP156SAP .. the original driver was MDMHAM50.INF
The second one I put in was MDMAMB2K.INF

All applications I use are allowed through my firewall.
I tried a new connectoid with no improvement. Sorry managed to upload 2.43MB before it froze my connection. Did manage to download a 4MB file.
I have no LAN.
I don't really understand the backbone thingy.
I tried to do a tracert and ping every one timed out. (not sure what to put in to test these)
*sigh*

Try disabling the firewall to see if that makes any difference.

You do not have LAN, but do you have LAN CARD - NIC built-in the machine? Even if you don't have LAN, if there is LAN card, this can cause problems.

Could you post a modem log also.Could not find anything on this model number. Were are you getting the drivers. Are there any other markings on the modem? Is this a internal or external? Also would help if you could get
AT&V1 results from hyperteerminal.

Internal Modem.
Does the log have to be from when the problem occurs?
Will look at the Hyperterminal thing.

Any log will do looking for the ven number of the modem. From the inf that you are using this modem must have the MD5660 chipset isa modem. Is this correct?

I've found a log from tonight..it's a little large to paste here..what would you like me to do with it.

I don't know what the chipset is. I believe I have to open the case to find it and I'm not so sure what I'm looking for if I do.

The Hyperterminal seems a bit complex for me..am I supposed to dial a number or what? I typed AT and it returned OK. What else am I suppposed to do.

I'm sorry, I'm not very technical minded with this.

Just cut and paste the last connection. In hyperterminal just type in AT&V1and post. No need to open the pc.Might try ATI4 also in hyperterminal.Just close you internet connection, open hyperterminal, when the make a new connection windows opens click cancel, type in AT click enter, then AT&V1 enter, then ATI4 enter.

Change your port speed to 115,200 in modem properties.Make sure that there is no check mark in connect on at this speed.

I noticed that before, but have found no option that I can change that refers to 'error control' or 'compression'.

I much appreciate your help Charles.. It's driving me mad!
