I suddenly get these "DSN error, server not found" messages when I go onto a website that requires a password. I have tried lowering my IE settings, allowing cookies, checked for bugs, but to no avail. Does NE-1 know how I can get my websites back? Oh and a happy V-day 2 y'all.

What OS are you using? Might go to IE properties,advance,reset default. Clear your temp files.

One step ahead of you. Checked for corrupted cookies (none).Pinged sites were ok. Contacting ISP - problem may reside with them. Will call them tomorrow. Thanks for your help Charles

Check your advanced settings in IE -
Tools-InternetOptions-Advanced -
SSL options/ etc in the Security Section

Also, Tools-InternetOptions-Security -
Custom Level -
Allow mixed display mixed content

You could also add the site(s) you want to access to the Trusted Zone in the same security tab;
If you are using any proxy for the Internet, check the proxy settings; if the proxy doesn't support SSL, you'll need to adjust the settings in
Tools-InternetOptions-connections-settings-proxy and/or
Tools-internetoptions-connections-lan settings-proxy

Another suggest - download the new Mozilla Firebird/Firefox browser & try that - I'm using Firebird (renamed Firefox) for over 80% of my browsing now.... I like it much better than IE....

Aloha! Richard.

Also if your anti virus or firewall made changes to your default settings disabling them well not put the settings back.So you will still have the problem even if you disable or uninstall them.

Well here's a new one, even for me. Turns out that my Cipher Strength was at 0-bit. (default is 56 or 64). I downloaded IE 6.0 with 128-bit encryption...VOILA! Talk about a happy camper. Thank you Charles and Richard for all your input and assistance. I enjoy reading your helpful hints by the way. They certainly broaden my limited computer knowledge Thanks again.

No, I did not install sp1, yes I did install other Microsoft updates, but only the minimum necessary. I need to upgrade this system. (It is getting old-by compuer standards)I am running OS98. Have used XP, and don't find many differences. One day I may even go cable! Or better yet~get a DELL! Me thinks me watches too many commercials.
