My Conextant PCI HCF never shows anything but "private" for calls. I have emailed and phoned Conextant techs and they have not helped. Does anyone know how to make the caller ID work? Thanks

Conexant doesn't make modems - they make the chipset - and they offer real support (at least one would hope) only to their customers which are the OEMs that make the modems.

Your support should come from the manufacturer of your modem
www.modemsite.com/56k/whomadeit.asp
But the catch is that most mfrs don't sell to you either - they sell to middlemen who in turn sell to you, and getting real support isn't very likely.

That said, you can use Hyperterminal to test the capabilities of your modem and to see what responses it returns. If the line calling you has callerid blocking, it is appropriate that the callerid display would be 'Private' (same a 'Blocked')

Aloha! Richard.

Richard,

Thanks for your reply.

I should have said it was the Zoom techs that couldn't help, not Conextant.

Everything checks out okay. But, the caller ID never shows anything except "private", and I know some of the calls aren't.

They are from family, work, etc.

What OS are you using? Might reinstall the telephon.ini file
http://support.earthlink.net/mu/1/psc/img/walkthroughs/windows_9x_nt/dialers/dial-up_connections/1645.psc.html

Post a modem log please. Try adding +VCID=1+VRID=0 in extra settings. What model zoom do you have?

What version of netwaiting are you using. Might upgrade to newer one.version 2.5.8

Remove all phones and any other caller id device from phone jack and try again.

I'm running Windows 98.

I have a Zoom internal modem PCI V.92, model: 3025C.

I have Netwaiting version 2.5.5. The most recent one listed on that site for Win9x is 2.5.3.

I've tried adding +VCID=2+VRID=1 and some other varients before, and have gotten error messages. I tried adding +VCID=1+VRID=0 and got the following error message when I tried to connect. Then I removed that line, rebooted, and the modem could connect just fine.

Error: 630
The modem is not responding properly. Please verify that the modem is plugged in to the computer and to the telephone line.
If the problem persists, please select 'More Help' button to start the Windows 98 Modem Troubleshooter.

Here's the modem log for the last session.

Why is it that when I change settings in Hyperterminal, they don't stay changed? I save the file, but when I open it again later, the settings have changed back. Is there some save command I actually need to type in? I've been using the save command under the file menu.

When you add a modem string you need to reboot and try connection again.Note the V92 command needs the ; between the + commands, you can see this in the modem log also from the default commands.
+PCW=0;+VCID=1;+VRID=0

I have inserted +VCID=1;+VRID=0 in the extra settings. Caller ID is still not working.

Netwaiting is also saying there are incoming calls when there aren't any.

Does anyone have more ideas on how to make caller ID work and why the modem says there are incoming calls when there aren't any?

Thanks.
