Noticed Norton NIS 2003 firewall was blocking the 3cmlnkw.exe file from accessing the internet because it was trying to use the Windows File Sharing, which is blocked by default by NIS. A USR support tech said this was a necessary file for the modem to operate correctly, and "it uses window's files because it is a Win Modem." Don't think he has a good grasp of windows file sharing. Anyone know what this file is REALLY for and is is necessary for the modem's operation, or is it just phoning back to USR or some other site? After(and not UNTIL)I updated the outdated drivers that came on the NEW CD from Wals Mart, the modem seems to work well...so far, without the 3cmlnkw.exe file being allowed access to the internet. This is the IP address that my firewall said 3cmlnkw.exe was trying to connect to: Search results for: 66.33.0.115,3357 OrgName: Dialtone Inc.
