However with my new computer with a Lucent Win Modem, the telephone on the telephone port still remains connected. So when I lift the phone, I get the modem hiss. Any ideas how I can have it disconnected when the modem is connected? |

Others are designed so that the 'phone' jack is always live. This is fixed in the design of the particular modem you have and can't be changed. (V.92/MoH requires a phone jack that's live all the time - so modems who have a dead phone jack with modem off-hook prevent use of 'phone' jack for the phone - a splitter, or phone plugged in elsewhere must be used.) There are 'lockout' devices that you can add to your line (RadioShack, etc.) that can do what you want - however, they may also impact the speed you get from the modem.... Aloha! Richard. |
