Wish to install more than one modem.Have extra slots. Can I disable all others and select just one a t a time safely via the device manager or also was told through network conections by selecting which one i wanted use? Was told this works with cable.
Has anyone tried this? How did it work?
Have a Zoom modem that is very erratic and have tried 3 other modems with different chips ..Zoom seems fastest but have to try several connections before I get a stable and fast one.All modeems are software. Newest one is a controler based USR5601b...but as out of box only connects at 31k.Zoom will go as hi as 45kplus.Old modem was a GTW with broadcom chip and was excellent but cant purchase one anywhere. All are v.92 modmes. USR gave me a set of strings to enter for disable V.92 and say it should give me more speed and stability. I dont care how long initial connection takes as long as a good stable one. Thanks.

What OS are you using? I do this myself just go to the dial up folder and pick the modem in the connect using window and be sure to move the phone line to that modem. I multi link them at times and use two modem at the same time but you will need two phone lines.

I have win xp home .I have 2 ISP's one is always a tad faster than the other...if one is 44 the other will be 42 etc.One supports v.92 and one doesnt..The faster of the two is the non v.92 one.Is that newtwork connection you speak of and your using 2 dial up modems?

I only have one phone line. But have heard of people using two modems at one time for separate download and uploads?

Each modem used at any particular time needs its own phone line - so, to use more than 1 modem at one time, you need more than 1 phone line.

So long as there are not conflicts, you can install as many modems as you want in machine - you don't even need to enable/disable in device manager as each modem will be identified and assigned a different name and COM port; you can use the modem you prefer at any particular time by name/COM port, etc. - Connectoid's 'connect using' property, etc.
