There seem to be a lot more Conexant-based modems out there than Agere-based. Some manufacturers such as Zoom have switched from Agere to Conexant. Is there a trend here, and if so, does anyone have any theories about why? |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 3/18/2004 8:32:07 AM The biggest market for modems is from OEM computer makers that include a modem with computer system or notebook. I don't think you can make any accurate assessment of the modem marketplace using the methodology you describe. Aloha! Richard. |
bawbcat Tl Posts: 9 USA | Posted - 3/18/2004 2:20:18 PM Makes sense. My observations are only based on looking at aftermarket modems, and even then I could be wrong. It just seems that there are more manufacturers offering Conexant than Agere. Maybe it has always been that way, I don't know. Market share doesn't really matter to me frankly, I'm more concerned about product availability and support. It seems that there aren't too many choices for aftermarket 1648C-based PCI modems, and I haven't been able to find even one that supports Type 1 CID. P.S. Kudos and Thanks to Richard for providing this helpful website. |
