Prior to updating the drivers I got a "line busy" error message from my LT Win modem, now I get "no dial tone". I have disconected all other phones, the XP diagnostics tell me the modem is fine, the phone company tells me the line is fine but the thing will not attempt to dial up! Any ideas?

First check the line with a phone to see if it is getting a dial tone and dial the number that you are using for the modem. Do you have voice mail if so clear all calls. might also try taking the check out of wait for dial tone in modem properties.Check the country setting also. How is the modem listed in the connect using window. Is the dialer pointing to the correct modem Check your settings. This is for other isp but setting should be the same.

Windows XP: Open your Control Panel, then Double click the Phone and Modem Options icon. click onto the Modems tab at the top, highlight your modem, and click the Properties button. Click onto the Modem tab, then uncheck the Wait for dial tone before dialing option. click OK on each of the open windows to save your changes.

Make sure you have the phone line connected to the right slot in back of the modem. What com port is the modem using and is it listed in the device manager. What drivers are you using?

If none of these will help might run ltremove.exe shut down and move modem to other pci slot ,reinstall.

Test modem with Hyperterminal as described at
www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.asp

You can use a phone connected via splitter or other jack to monitor line along with on/off-hook (ATH#) and dial (ATD#) commands.

If the modem has electro-mechanical relay, you should hear click as the modem goes on/off-hook from the modem card; You can also test with dial-tone detection off (ATX#)

Aloha! Richard.
