I have a '97 Sony VAIO PC, a PCV-130.
It was a Windows 95 with a 98 upgrade disk. Got tired of messing with it and formatted the hard drive, then installed Windows 98se....... quite a feat for a new to PCs guy like me.
My problem is it cannot detect my modem.
I Used the Sonys original "Applcations Recovery" CD to reinstall the LT driver. When I did this, the LT WIN modem now showed up on the "Install New Modem" list of modem choices, but it asks for the manufacturers installation disk..... I never had a disk. he computer came with everything installed on it.

Can I get this modem to work? Is there something I can download onto a floppy using a friends computer?

I am stuck using my web-tv for now.

Any ideas would be great. I would just go out and buy a fancy new modem, but fuds are extremely tight right now.

Thanks.

The LT modem doesn't get installed using Add New Hardware or the 'Install New Modem' function - it must be installed by running the setup.exe from the driver.
If you've got an LT modem, the driver should include the setup.exe install program; you can also install the modem with the latest (or any) generic LT driver -

With a Premium Access Subscription, you can download driver from
www.modemsite.com/56k/_ltwin7.asp

Without - you can download driver from the Agere site -
the link is on the page I mentioned above ( www.modemsite.com/56k/ltwin7.asp )

After you download the driver - a self-extracting .exe - you run it.

Are you familiar with CONTROL PANEL ->MODEMS & SYSTEM ?
The 1st thing I'd suggest - check System/Hardware Device Manager - any ?'s or !'s/modems? Is there any modem listed in ControlPanel/Modems? If so, what?

Aloha! Richard.

In system properties there is no modem listed in the device manager tab. Ports COM 1 and LPT 1 are listed there, but no modem.

If I click on "modems" from the control panel, there is a list of modem manufacurers to choose from.
I eliminated the original 95 and 98 upgrade CD, by formatting the hard drive and then I installed the 98se.
Upon installing the 98se, I went to control panel> to modems and looked under the selection of modem maufacturers.... The LT WIN modem was no longer listed there.... sooooooo, I tried something. I put in the original Sony application CD, clicked on "drivers", then clicked install. After doing this, the LT modem was now back in the list of manufacurers on the modem setup list..... I thought I had gained something by doing this.... but it asks me to insert the original seup disk.... which of course I do not have. And this is where I sit now.
From what I understand, it is possible to download this driver onto a floppy from the site you mentiond, using a friends computer, and then using this floppy to install the info into my computer. Correct?

I appreciate you staying on top of my situation. If funds were not so tight, I would just do the right thing and go get a new V90 modem..... probably simpler. Right now $30 bucks is a lot, and I need to eat.

thanks again,
randy l

Just download the 8.30 driver, put it on a floppy or something - and run it - it should install the driver and modem should then be listed.

Up and running faster than ever. I hit over 49,000bps, averaging 46,000 with the Agere V90 download.
I formatted the hard drive again, but without the modem installed in the PC case. After formatting and loading windows98se, I shut down the computer and installed the modem....... Long story short... The computer found the modem, I opened the floppy in the drive, and it unzipped and installed everything perfectly.

Thanks for the help... I need all I can get.

I have a dell inspiron I8100 laptop that disconnects me from the internet when i plug in the power adapter. When it runs off the battery it does just fine until you plug the power adapter back into it. I went to dell and updated the bios flash and updated the computer at windows update. OS Windows XP. Thank you for your time.
