Black Hawk Tl Posts: 5 United Kingdom | Posted - 4/21/2004 1:39:07 AM If i start my PC up before i turn on my modem or i turn both on at the same time the modem will not connect, it gives me the dial tone not found when i try and connect to the internet. However if i turn my modem on then power up my PC the modem connects no problem. Has anyone got any ideas why this is and how do i correct it? |

Black Hawk Tl Posts: 5 United Kingdom | Posted - 4/22/2004 1:04:28 AM Thanx, i know i have to turn the modem on before the PC but i was wondering if there is a way around it because 1 of my modems is a USB modem so i cant turn it on before i turn the PC on. Is there a patch i can download to correct this or anything? |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 4/22/2004 10:52:31 AM The USB modem shouldn't be affected - this would apply to modems connected to PC COM port. This modem power on first isn't exactly that the modem has to be on before power is applied to the PC - the modem can be turned on after the PC gets power, so long as the modem is on when Windows starts to boot up. Aloha! Richard. |
Black Hawk Tl Posts: 5 United Kingdom | Posted - 4/23/2004 1:08:04 AM Ah i get you, well thanyou. I do have a problem with my USB modem though, that does exactly the same as my dial-up modem. The USB gets power as soon as i boot the pc up which is what is needed but then halfway through loading XP it turns off and on again and wont dial then. HELP!!! |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 4/23/2004 9:15:15 AM What happens if you have the USB modem off or disconnected from the USB port when you boot; then turn on or plug in after Windows has fully booted? USB is different from a COM port in that USB is specficially designed to allow detection/support of devices that are plugged in or removed with the OS running. Aloha! Richard. |
