I have an agere modem..it has been working fine and then all of a sudden it disconnected me while online (AOL) and I could not get back on..it says modem can not be found..I have taken it out..reinstalled, went through all the connect junk and it stills says it can find modem..how long do they last?? I have only had it maybe a year. I connected my laptop and it worked fine so it is not the dial up connection. I hate to buy a new one.

What version of Windows are you using?
What do you have listed in Control Panel->System->Hardware/Device Manager ?
Is there a modem listed?
Are there any unknown devices, question marks or exclamation mark icons is the listing?

There is more than one type of Agere modem - you need to identify which type you have, as the (re-)installation procedure varies depending upon which type -
Softmodem (SVP) - www.modemsite.com/56k/sv92p.asp
DSP (LT Win Modem/Lucent Win Modem/Agere Win Modem) - www.modemsite.com/56k/ltwin.asp
HW Controller (Venus) www.modemsite.com/56k/venus.asp
Which type do you have?

How long does a modem last? It can vary to being dead on arrival, to never failing....

A mailicious script, virus, trojan, worm, malware, etc can also cause unexpected problems that might make it appear that something is wrong that isn't.

Aloha! Richard.

I have a lucent modem that was working on my laptop. I upgraded to Win2k because I had 98 on it... and... well.. 98 crashes tooooo much. So now I cannot find the right driver... I have searched and searched and nothing works. IBM's site has drivers for the 1171, but not the 9au.. and the one it "says" works, when you pull up the page, 9au is not listed as able to use. Any suggestions?????
