I am trying to issue modem AT commands using a microcontroller to the PC ( running Windows XP Pro. ) internal modem through the serial port. The microcontroller serial port ( DCE ) is connected to the PC serial port ( COM1 ) through a straight through serial cable. I do not get OK reponse to any of the AT commnads - AT, ATE1, ATDT, etc., i.e., there are no OK's on the HyperTerminal screen.
The internal modem is connected to COM3. Next I tried issuing AT commands to the modem through the HyperTerminal by connecting to COM3 ( to which the modem is connected ). Even this elicited no OK response. This however works on creating a HyperTerminal connection directly with the modem.

It is not clear to me whether the set-up described ( of sending AT commands to the internal modem through the serial port ) is supposed to work at all or whether there is something missing in my set-up or system.
Thanks in advance for any help that might help me resolve my problem or understanding or both.

Not sure I totally understand your post - but,
if you are trying to send data from externally connected device (microcontroller->Com port) to the modem's COM port, you'll need some software to create the bridge/relay -
I'm not aware of any 'off-the-shelf' comm software that does this.

Aloha! Richard.
