Logic243 Tl Posts: 4 USA | Posted - 6/11/2004 7:47:48 AM My new computer operates in Win XP Home. Came with a PCTel HSP56 MR modem. My old computer (Win 98) and my laptop (Win XP Pro) connect consistently at 49 - 52 kbps. My new computer will connect no faster than 31 kbps on the same phone line. I have downloaded the most recent drivers but still slow. Any suggestions. |

Logic243 Tl Posts: 4 USA | Posted - 6/17/2004 12:36:29 PM The old one is a Creative Lab 56K Modem Blaster. The new is a Dell? |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 6/17/2004 2:00:11 PM Please post a modem log, might try +MS=V90 in extra settings. Might also try +MS=V90%C0 or +MS=17,1 |
Logic243 Tl Posts: 4 USA | Posted - 6/17/2004 8:06:37 PM I added the different strings but it did not help. I installed my older Creative Labs modem and immediately connected at 49.2 kbps. Thanks for the advise. |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 6/18/2004 3:30:33 AM Have you removed the pctel modem from the new pc? Conexant owns the pctel chip now. They have a driver on there site for this modem.Occasionally, the PCTEL HSP56 Modem driver may need to be reinstalled. This may be the result of the driver having become corrupted.Dell uses these modems because they are cheap to build. If you have a network card on this pc and not using it I would disable it in the device manager. Xp has a problem with unused NC cards. Edited by - charles on 6/18/2004 3:35:34 AM |
Logic243 Tl Posts: 4 USA | Posted - 6/18/2004 4:11:15 PM I had already uninstalled the PCTel. I went to conexant's website and downloaded the drivers for XP, reinstalled the modem and connected. Still connected at 31 kbps. Dont know what else to do so I put my Creative Labs modem back in. It connects consistently at 49 to 50 kbps. I can leave it in but it just seem wrong that my new modem doesn't work right. I also disabled the network card. No change! Edited by - logic243 on 6/18/2004 4:13:57 PM |
