Hi, After uninstalling aol 9 and installing earthlink 2004, I can not connect to the internet. Uninstalling/installing modem and different drivers doesn't help. Trying diff. modem and drivers no help. Reinstalling lt modem with 8.30 driver, I can connect with hyperterminal, but xp pro connectoid still returns a 633 error. This is driving me crazy!!!! Any help is appreciated. JOHN

Make sure nothing is running in the background that is using the modem, click ctrl, atl, delete and end task.Make sure aol dialup adapter is not in the device manager. This is not a driver problem but a setup one.Remove the dialup connectoid from the dial up folder and make a new one. also look at this.

Make sure you do this also.

Run MSCONFIG and make sure all aol service is unchecked

After uninstalling AOL go to:
*Documents and Settings
*All Users
*Application Data
You may not see this folder. It is hidden. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on Tools, Folder Options, click on the View tab, in the Advanced Settings window, Hidden Files and Folders section, select Show Hidden Files and Folders, click Apply, then click OK. Double the Application Data folder.
*AOL
If you see any see any America Online folders, delete them.
Reboot the computer

None of these helped! While looking at properties of the modem, I noticed the computer installed it with the same IRQ(11) setting as my network card. Is this acceptable. Could this be the error? How would I change this setting? Thanks

One thing you might try is disable the network card in the device manager, make sure your modem is listed in the connect using window and if using 8.30 it should be listed as Agere modem not lucent.

Hi. Triedall things listed and no help. Amibios had no modem irq settings. Removed modem, restarted, deleted onboard network card and restarted. Automatically reinstalled onboard net card, with no prompts, then installed modem and ran 8.30 after removing with ltremove. (8.30 says it isn't digitally signed for xp). System info shows irq for net card is 11, new install of modem is com4, irq 12. IRQ 12 also listed for sis pci to usb bus. Also deleted sygate firewall. Still get 633 error when try to use connectoid I made for earthlink dial up #. This is very frustrating!!!!! I don't really want to, but would a new install of the os (xp pro) be what I need to do? Thank you for your ideas!!!!!

What com ports do you show in device manager? Might also also remove the modem drivers, shut down and put modem in other pci slot.reinstall or go in the bios, disable com ports, run ltremove.exe reinstall the modem.

Might also look here to see if the com port shows that it is in use.

If none of the above will work try this.
Remove the modem drivers,go to start, run and type in regedit.exe enter.Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI go down the list and look for any modem installs.Click the + next to pci, look for Ven_11c1 click the + high light the folder BUS and look in the right hand pane if it list a lucent modem that you have, remove the folder VEN_11c1. Go down the list and see if there is anymore and remove.
Also check the device manager for any modem list, remove, remove all com ports also.

By default, Windows XP will not display all installed drivers. To display the complete list,
select from the View-menu to "Show Hidden Devices" remove all old modem installs and com ports, reboot and install modem, might also look in Network Adapters and remove any aol Network Adapters,
Also might be a good idea to run this reg cleaner after all the modem install and the removing of aol,it is free for 30 days. It is called RegSupreme 1.2 and works very well, been using it for a lone time.Should be able to put it on a floppy then install on the troubled pc.

Back again..I tried all the ideas given and none of them worked. I tonight reinstalled my os xp pro, reinstalled mainboard drivers, including amr hsp 56 modem, and I can now connect!!!!!! I originally had removed this modem a few months ago because of line noise thru it only, not phones, or other modem. So I hope this problem won't reoccur. THANK YOU all for your help and patience, this was driving me crazy!!! John
