Does anyone know how to move my modem from one room to another and have it actually work? Roadrunner says they can come out for a fee and fix it because it will only run off of that particular cable outlet. Is this something I can do myself?

You are talking about cable modem.... and our expertise here is dial-up;
however - generally RR uses a splitter on the cable with higher signal level (less attenuation) for the cable to modem vs everything else, and nothing other than the cable modem connected on that.
To do it yourself, you'd need to run the correct coax cable to the desired location from the splitter and not connect any other TVs/etc to that cable.

(You can also leave cable modem where it is and use a longer networking cable from modem to computer or router).

Aloha! Richard.
