Hello,
I have my own telemarketing software that uses hardware voice modems to make phone calls
My problem is that in win98 microphone works ok, people can hear what users saying with no problems.
But in windows XP same software bring me problems, people can't hear or hear with noise , I’ve been thinking it's driver related , but now I figure out same thing happens with aopen voice modems and USR voice modems,
And the noise/low volume of the microphone is not a constant issue - sometimes it works fine.

I figure out it could be related to some automatic microphone boost in new version of TAPI for win2000/XP
Could I disable it somehow???
Because if one person make calls - quality of his sound is beautiful, but if where are others in the room making phone calls - his sound quality becomes unpredictable.
Again, in windows 98 for both modems - I never got such problem, once user select appropriate microphone gain everything is working in acceptable level of quality.

Thank you for any info!!

(Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio -> Sound Recording -> Volume. You may need to select Options -> Advanced Controls, then click Advanced and turn on or off the Microphone Boost).
One of the factors that can affect sound quality is the Internet bandwidth available during your call. Try to avoid making calls during peak Internet usage hours when traffic is high. Another tip is to use a headset with a built-in microphone. This will help eliminate echo and ensure better sound. Adjust the microphone volume so that your speech is not too loud.
Could also check the software that you are using for any setttings. This is other software but gives some help in sound problems.

This page should help;
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/directx9_c/directx/play/using/voice/mixer_config.asp

Also check the problem if using Autoconfiguration

thanks for your replay,
But I'm not using internet telephony or sound card
i'm using standart phone call by dialing number
and microphone is connected to modem, not to soundcard

so I'm not sure how to control or at least check what can i change in modem microphone settings.
I can only change microphone gain via TAPI settings
but I have no idea why is it in windows 2000/XP
microphone level is ever not constant (after i set it to some level) or where is some kind of additional functionality changing microphone related settings without my permission.

It would seem that if microphone is connected directly to the modem (a voice/speakerphone modem) that the mic would be independent of any operating system.....
There are, depending upon the sound card, some settings in Windows ControlPanel/Sound that deal with adjusting microphone volume/background noise - but again, if the mic isn't connected to sound card, this shouldn't have an effect.....

Aloha! Richard.

What is the make and model of the modem? Is the modem connected to the sound inside the pc?
