Hi, I recently had a 633 error with my lucent win modem, and was given many hints to try and resolve it. I finally re-installed xp pro, and hooked back up the amr pctel hcp56 modem that came with the computer. Everything worked fine until I downloaded from windows update, a new driver for the onboard SIS fast ethernet card. I downloaded it twice, and it errored installing it twice. Not realizing any conflict yet, I reconfiguired the lan for my peer-peer network. Lan worked but the next time i tried to dial out I got the 633 error again. Tried disabling lan, rolling back the driver, uninstalling the driver, all to no avail. Trying to reinstall drivers for modem and lan from original disk, now stops 3/4 way through and tells me to install thru xp. Both modem and lan appear to be sharing IRQ 11. Again any ideas are appreciatted. John

You could also try putting modem in different PCI slot.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them tonight. The sis driver was from the microsoft windows update site, I'm not sure what ver it was. I downloaded the driver from the sis site and will try to install it tonight off of disks. Should I try this 1st? Re-do tcp/ip settings 1st? The modem is an amr so I can't use another slot, I had tried that with the other modem and it seemed to make no difference. I also downloaded the winsock fix also, and will try it tonight. Again, what order should I try these fixes? Thanks for your help!!!!!!

After install have you givin this pc a cold boot.Shut down turn power off to tower for a few minutes, power up.Your problem might be in your network setup.

Error 633: The modem is not installed or configured for Dial-Up Networking or is not configured for Remote Access dialout To check your modem configuration, double click the Modems icon in Control Panel.

I would check your network set up.

This issue also occurs due to multiple drivers installed for the device.

Boot to safe mode and in the device manager see, if there are multiple drivers listed for modem
uninstall the modem and reboot. windows will detect the modem and reinstall

Hi, wasn't able to try fixes, had a bad floppy with the sis driver on it , so will retry tonight. Did find out one thing, I am unable to boot into safe mode. Computer starts, gets to black screen with safe mode around edges, then reboots itself into normal start up. Tried with command prompt mode also, window with command prompt comes up, and 2-3 seconds later restarts in normal mode. Also noticed under network connections system is calling my local area connection as #8. I'm sure this is from trying all these different disable/enable tries, but does the system still retain memories of previous settings that are'nt listed?
