I've tried using several variations of USR modems with Win2k and I tend to get a lot of disconnected or I have to try calls 2 or 3 times before they go through. Are there any known problems with Win2k and tapi? Any suggestions? I didn't have any problems when I was using NT 4.0 and I don't have problems on my laptop which runs XP. Thanks

Also I used the CD that came with the modem to install but when I re-boot Windows still detects the modem and tries to install a second instance of it. Can this be stoped?

They are all USR external modems, 56k faxmodem, 33.6k faxmodem and 28.8k faxmodem. I've tried downloading drivers, using the cd, using the windows usr driver and standard driver. I'm starting to think it's the phone line but I never had a problem before with it. But maybe the programs I'm using are using old tapi versions.

Might do a line check. I have seen some problem around with the usr serial modem because of buffer over run. Might also make sure the modem is not charing a IRQ with other devices. Might also try hyperterminal to do a line check.
ATI6 ATI11 ATY11

Are these serial or usb?

Might bring down the Receive buffer down some or limit the connect speed. Some have tried installing a high speed serial card.

Have you install any of the sevice packs for two? Do the line check in hyperterminal and see if you are getting these overruns.
As far as connection you might disable wait for dial tone or put commas before the number like this ,,,,,XXX-XXXX this will also help if you have voice mail.
