The particular AT commands in question are
AT+GCI?
AT#CLS=?

Downloaded an AT command PDF from Modemsite but could
not find any reference to the above.

The modem being used is :

ATI3 = LT V.90 Data+Fax modem, v 5.98A
(Lucent Win Modem)

Said modem is in an HP Pavilion 563W system.

Am trying to re-establish an AOL connection for a
friend and it won't connect. The " AT#CLS=? "
command returns a " Command not supported " message.
Tech support at AOL claim that is preventing the
connection from being completed.

Need to know what that command controls/used for and
how to correct/fix.

thanks

This should help with the command. The lucent will not support this command. You would not want to use this command in your modem string. This would be used in a termanel program.AOl got this one wrong.
#CLS Data, Fax or Voice Mode Selection
#CLS? Returns the current setting of the #CLS
#CLS=? Shows available settings
#CLS=0* Selects data mode operation
#CLS=2 Selects fax class 2 command operation
#CLS=8 Selects voice mode operation

What error are you getting?
What command are you using now?
AT+GCI?
COUNTRY INFORMATION:
You should not need this command also. You can set this in DUN

Look in the modems inf for defult string or might see it in the modem log.Might also update the drivers.I check HP and they have no drivers for this modem.

The " AT#CLS=? " command returns a " Command not supported " message. No other #CLS commands are listed.
If this command is not one that should be used , is the
default initialization string editable ?? If so, how can
I access it ??

AT+FCLASS=? returns: 0, 1

AT+GCI? returns: +GCI:B5 (USA)

Yea, subsequent to the first post, I found additional info at Modemsite.com and downloaded the generic drivers for the
Lucent LT WinModem (ver 8.30). When I go back out there
tomorrow, I'm going to remove the modem listed in Device
Mgr. and shut down; physically remove the modem & reboot;
install the new drivers & shut down; physically install
the modem and boot up; point to where the new drivers are
and hope for the best !

THANKS for the info and links.

You can change the string in aol software under expert setup.Note that when you upgrade the drivers to 8.30 that the modem name will change to agere from lucent. Make sure it is listed in the connect using window in dial up networking. Check the modem log for what string is being use. With the 8.30 drivers you could just run the setup, exe in the drivers then reboot. Is this a XP machine? The 8.30 will support the +MS command.

Yep, WinXP.

That link to AOL should be useful. He initially tried to
load AOL 9.0 but nothing worked. AOL finally told him that
9.0 drivers would not work with XP and that he should load
8.0+. So , that's what he has loaded.

Thanks again for the timely and HELPFUL info !!

Problem solved.....

Went back today to see what else could be accomplished and he told me that another guy had come by and found that the *70 option needed to be "unchecked" for it to work. Seems odd, in that for the past 5 years or so , he has had use it to connect.

Whatever; it's up and running.

Thanks much for your support.
