This is a pctel chipset. You would need to remove all modem drivers, shut down remove the modem, boot up with out the modem in the pc,Make sure there is no modems listed in the device manager. Install the drivers, shut down, put the modem in the pc and boot up. Windows will find new hardware.Point it to the drivers. http://www.diamondmm.com/support/current/library/modems/SM56LE-PCT/SM56LE-PCT%20QSG.pdf |

charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 7/29/2004 8:22:08 AM What OS are you running? What drivers are you installing? If you are running 98 there is a bug in this OS. Note there are two drivers for 98. One for 98 and the other for 98se. |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 7/29/2004 9:56:47 AM 2h9 Also looks like a repackage modem from Lectron. Note this is not correct the fccid# please check again.2H9M500BI58PSP I think the I58psp should be I56PSP, HSP688T0344DGEAAD check again. thinking it should be HSP1688T0344DGEAAD

nadster Tl Posts: 4 Canada | Posted - 7/29/2004 1:54:17 PM Operating system is win98se. I'll check the fcc# again, it's in the computer right now and im kinda using it to write this. |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 7/30/2004 12:27:19 AM I think you using the correct drivers, might look at this also. This is a know bug in 98se.The file that you are using is a generic one and windows need the correct one to install wmb drivers. It has the () around the file because it is not loaded and it needs it. http://www.kipcug.org/kipdiscuss/_disc1/0000004a.htm
You can extract these file from your 98se disk with system file checker.Put your 98se cd in the cdrom.Go to system file checker.Check extract one file.Type in ntkern.vxd if ask from were d:/98 then extract it to the files below,do one that pops up then do it again, just click browse and point it to the other folder
Note for WINDOWS 98 SECOND EDITION ENGLISH |
nadster Tl Posts: 4 Canada | Posted - 7/30/2004 6:46:58 AM The Fcc id# is 2h9M500BI58PSP. I tried reinstalling it and put in that file ntkern.vxd. Still the same message comes up. Should i consider, reinstalling windows 98se. I did just upgrade from windows 95. So some of the old files might still be kicking around anc causing some problems. Thank you for ur time and effort. |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 7/30/2004 8:55:18 AM Did you put the ntkern.vxd in both files or install the sp1.5 file from the link above, note that gives better WDM support. c:\windows\system c:\windows\system\vmm32
Go to device manager, start at the top, high light the hardware, click properties, drivers, see if there are any file that have the () around them.Write that file down and extract from the 98se cd the same.need to put one in each file. Reinstalling will put you back were you are now. This is a bug in 98se. The fix is to put the files in the folders yourself,98 will not do this on install.I do like a clean install of any OS over an upgrade. vcomm.vxd
