Hi,

I need help diagnosing a problem with my dial-up networking.

I've recently activated a dial-up account (bell). I initially tried the cd... Everything installs perfectly but when I try to connect, it connects for a second, then I get disconnected. The modem "communicates" properly, it verifies username and password, it registers to the remote network, then it disconnects. Sometimes the error 619 comes up (could not establish a connection with remote computer... the port was closed).... other times just a simple re-dialing box comes up....

I've talked to Bell exhaustively... They've tried everything from disabling all other programs to physically checking my phone line!!!! NO CHANGE!!!!! The level 2 tech thought that it could be a software conflict or a physical modem problem.

Any ideas???? Could it be that modem is fried (diagnostically, its comes up working normally)

I've yet to try replacing the modem but I thought that I would seek help in case its not the root of the problem...

Could corrupt files be the source of the problem???

thanks,

Deadmedic

What OS are you using and the make and model of the modem?
Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and end task RNAAPP and try connection.
Uninstall and Reinstall connectoid, the network settings, pwl files, and DUN

If using windows me might check if you have setting in the The Security tab of your dial up connectoid.Right click your connection icon, properties,Security tab should not need anything here if using ISP to connect. This would go for what ever OS you are using. If using 98 make sure there is no check in log on to network.
