okay, I just reformatted my machine because I was having major problems from windows "optimizers" that actually just gave me blue screens. Anyway, while it was working, gaming was possible with 2-300 ping times with spikes sometimes on my cheapo Agere modem. Now, I get into a game (same driver) and get pings like in the title, they start to go up and never stop. With All Seeing Eye I get normal pings like 217 for instance, but in game they just sky rocket. This is America's Army v2.1.0 by the way.

This Agere modem is the only one that will stay connected w/o failing for as long as its on and being used by something. My USR 5610b nor a PCtel winmodem could handle it. I never go above a v.34 connection here @ 28.8k

Will the modem sold here on modemsite help with ping times maybe because it has an onboard DSP? Has anyone has gaming experience with that modem?

For the most part, factors other than your modem will control ping times - so, can't say that DSP modem would do better than some other modem.

Errors in the data link between your modem and ISP modem have negative effect on gaming; speed shifts, rate renegotions and even worse, retrains are also bad.
Limiting the connection to a slower speed that produces fewer errors/rate change might help

okay, 1st thing I didn't remember to put the settings back to dial-up in unreal tournament and AA. I've read those articles numerous times before and I'm already getting a v.34 connection, so lowering my speed more is definitly not going to do it.

I lowered my MTU to 68 just to make absolutely sure that no packet loss was occouring.

So what I've found is just that in UT:2k4 dial up doesn't have the bandwidth needed to keep 20 guys on a mapand remain a lower ping time.

AA though I think I fixed and its working okay, since its a slower paced game then UT.

well, embarrasingly enough I found out what some of my major problems were in AA. I had it set to DSL/CABLE :-P

Also, something in ASE (All-Seeing Eye) was using my connection during games, sucking bandwidth and making performance worse, so I just enabled an option to make it close when I load a game. Also, lowering my MTU really far seems to keep ping times more stable at X speed then actually lowering said ping time. So thats working out fine for now. I just don't have the bandwidth needed I guess for some game situations.
