Is there any way to send commands to a modem when it is ignoring DTR to hang up? I have tried the '+++' ATH0 but have had no luck. I don't beleive this is modem specific but I have a USR 5686. Anybodies ideas are welcome

What OS are you using, might try hitting ctrl, alt, delete and end task Rnaapp. Are you talking about when you are connected to the net or using a terminal program?
+++ and wait for an OK then ATH

I think the command is ATH to disconnect.

How do you disconnect?

Please post a modem log.
&Dn Controls Data Terminal Ready (DTR) operations.
&D0 DTR override
&D1 DTR toggle causes online Command mode
&D2 Normal DTR operations
&D3 Resets on receipt of DTR

Switch Default Function
1 OFF Data Terminal Ready (DTR)
Override
OFF Normal DTR operations:
computer must provide DTR signal
for the modem to accept
commands; dropping DTR
terminates a call
ON Modem ignores DTR (Override)
2 OFF Verbal/Numeric Result Codes

Thanks Charles. I probably should explain more for you. What I need to do is be able to tell the modem to hang up when DTR is overridden (&D0) because I am doing this to bypass the TAPI to let one application connect a line and have nother take over the port. But after I am done I need to be able to tell the modem to hang up. Since it is ignoring DTR, I am not sure how to do this. I suppose I can have windows close the thread in the task manager, but I think there has got to be a better way. Any thoughts?

The +++ method should work so long as the +++ can be sent from PC to modem; there must be a pause before and after the first and last + (the amount of 'guard time' required can be changed with s-register);
once the modem has accepted the +'s and dropped to command mode, ATH will hang up the modem.

Aloha! Richard.

Richard,

Thanks. I got it to work, after finding out that the connection of the communication protcol of the two deveices were not logging out and echoing the '+++' charters which the modem would ignore thinking it was part of the data transmission. I appreacite your help!
