United Kingdom | Posted - 8/14/2004 7:27:27 AM I have a Lucent Win Modem running on a Dell Inspiron 5000e laptop under Windows ME.Recently it has started to disconnect me from the internet after about 5 minutes of of idle operation. I have switched off the "disconnect when idle" option (even though it was set at 30 minutes) but still my connection keeps going down. A copy of the driver log follows : 08-12-2004 20:47:48.79 - Lucent Win Modem in use. 08-12-2004 20:47:48.80 - Modem type: Lucent Win Modem 08-12-2004 20:47:48.80 - Modem inf path: MDMLCNT.INF 08-12-2004 20:47:48.80 - Modem inf section: Modem_PCI_DSVD 08-12-2004 20:47:48.99 - 115200,N,8,1 08-12-2004 20:47:48.99 - 115200,N,8,1 08-12-2004 20:47:48.99 - Initializing modem. 08-12-2004 20:47:48.99 - Send: AT<cr> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.00 - Recv: AT<cr> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.00 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.00 - Interpreted response: Ok 08-12-2004 20:47:49.00 - Send: AT&FE0V1&D2&C1S0=0<cr> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.20 - Recv: AT&FE0V1&D2&C1S0=0<cr> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.20 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.20 - Interpreted response: Ok 08-12-2004 20:47:49.20 - Send: AT+ILRR=0;+MR=0;+ER=0;+DR=0<cr> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.20 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.20 - Interpreted response: Ok 08-12-2004 20:47:49.20 - Send: ATS7=60S30=0L0M1+ES=3,0,2;+DS=3,0;<cr> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.20 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.20 - Interpreted response: Ok 08-12-2004 20:47:49.20 - Send: AT+IFC=2,2;B0B15B2X4<cr> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.21 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 08-12-2004 20:47:49.21 - Interpreted response: Ok 08-12-2004 20:47:49.21 - Dialing. 08-12-2004 20:47:49.21 - Send: ATDT;<cr> 08-12-2004 20:47:51.92 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 08-12-2004 20:47:51.92 - Interpreted response: Ok 08-12-2004 20:47:51.92 - Dialing. 08-12-2004 20:47:51.92 - Send: ATDT###############<cr> 08-12-2004 20:48:17.09 - Recv: <cr><lf>CONNECT 52000 V42bis<cr><lf> 08-12-2004 20:48:17.09 - Interpreted response: Connect 08-12-2004 20:48:17.09 - Connection established at 52000bps. 08-12-2004 20:48:17.09 - Error-control on. 08-12-2004 20:48:17.09 - Data compression on. 08-12-2004 21:14:55.39 - Remote modem hung up. 08-12-2004 21:14:58.39 - Recv: <no response> 08-12-2004 21:14:58.39 - WARNING: Unrecognized response. USA | Posted - 8/14/2004 8:27:16 AM After the disconnect go to hperterminal and post the ATI11 results.What driver version do you have installed? Do you have outlook express running in the background? If so make sure you do not have it to disconnect after checking for email. Open the Control Panel and double click on Internet Options. Click the Connections tab, highlight your Stargate dialup connection and click the Settings button. Click on Properties, then the Dialing Tab. Uncheck Enable idle disconnect. Uncheck Disconnect when connection may not be needed.
Open Outlook Express. Click the Tools menu and select Options. Click the Connection or Dialup tab. Uncheck the Hang Up After Sending and Receiving option and make sure Ask before Switching Dialup Connections is marked. Click OK. Edited by - charles on 8/14/2004 8:34:07 AM |

USA | Posted - 8/16/2004 11:02:51 PM What you could do is set outlook to check for email every 5 minutes.Leave it open in the background.Just open outlook, click tools, options, make sure there is a check mark in check for message evey 5 minutes. Note in the log:Remote modem hung upI would also update the driver to 8.30 first. Then remove the old connectoid in the dial up folder and make a new one. The driver you have installed is old. Retrain by Local Modem 1 Retrain by Remote Modem 1 Looks like the modem wanted to retrain but lost the connection in doing so. Edited by - charles on 8/17/2004 3:05:21 AM |

Diagnostics: Retrain by Local Modem 1 Retrain by Remote Modem 1 Check with your ISP to see if they have any idle disconnect time; If diagnostics regularly indicate retrains, limit your max connect speed a notch or 2 lower www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-linklimit.asp Aloha! Richard.

United Kingdom | Posted - 10/18/2004 2:42:14 PM Thanks to everyone who was kind enough to reply. Just a quick update :-I was about to update my driver to version 8.30 as suggested but, just like the way the problem started, it suddenly just started working again ! As the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" so I decided to leave the driver unchanged, and touch wood, I haven't had a problem since. If the problem returns I will update my driver as suggested. Thanks Again, Blue Sky Boy, [PS: I haven't replied sooner since I've been on holiday and also have been waiting to ensure the problem has truely gone away.] |
