I just came across what appears to be a brand new version of the Agere SoftModem, it uses the AGERE SV92PL-T00 chip with a 1035A codec and ATI5 returns PCI, PerLite, 19, not the expected Mercury or Perseus.

I'm only aware of the Mercury with 1034C codec and transformer, and the Perseus with 1035A silicon line interface. Both these two versions use the SV92P-T00 and also the 1035A codec.

Other than the chip difference, the PerLite looks identical to an Encore Brand Perseus version of the Agere SoftModem bought last year.

In my rural location the Mercury connects avg. 40.0 Kbps, the Perseus at avg. 38.0 Kbps and the PerLite avg. 33.0 Kbps.

Does anyone know anything about this Agere PerLite SoftModem?

I wonder if this is the HypermapperLite or Ultramapper-Lite chipset.

That page also came up when I did a Google search but I really didn't understand much from reading it. Suprising that a search of the Agere site shows no results for SV92PL but does for SV92P.
Also interesting that the driver inf files now show "SV92P/P2/PL System Audio" at the top in the commented lines. I also discovered this site http://www.loopcomm.com/products_detail.php?level2_no=94 They actually have one one of these modems and describe it. Is this SV92PL just a phone line interface and buffer with all the rest of the modem in software?

There should be no effect on connect speed between an
SV92P-T00 and SV92PL-T00 chip. Difference inside the chip that makes the PL less costly, but they are functionally identical and physical connections/spec are the same. (The PL chip is supported starting with driver version 2.1.33.

Difference in the connect speeds you see most likely something else. One possibility is the particular silicon DAA you have paired with the PL chip isn't as good as the particular one on the board with the P. Or, a host of other possibilities.

Aloha! Richard.

I dug out both modems this morning and eyeballed them real close with jewelers glasses. Both have the same UPC code 4 712224 996088 and all components and PC board appear to be the identical including the DAA a VEIL V10921A. Using driver version 2.1.36 with both modems, the SV92PL always connects at a slower speed. This morning the SV92PL PerLite connects at 29.3, the SV92P Perseus at 34.6 and the Mercury SV92P at 40.0. After all this tinkering around I'm really puzzled why such a difference. Richard, would you please elaborate on other possibilities?

Thanks, Gordon1130
