Hi- I have the above modem with one line into it with CID enabled. I have an IVM software loaded, and a hard phone connected to the outport (ie, tele) of the modem. Caller ID info shows on the phone but not in the IVM software.

Any ideas on how to check if modem is TAPI or DTMF enabled and how I can test it from modem to TAPI software? Could the phone work and the PC IVM software not?

Thanks,

Dave

The modem may not have the necessary components to detect Type-1 caller id (Type 1 is when the phone is on-hook).
If the modem can't detect type 1 caller id, then software that relies on the modem to get caller id won't get it either. Modem/Windows use of TAPI / DTMF won't matter - you need a modem that supports type 1 caller id.

To verify that the modem doesn't support caller id -
Use Hyperterminal connected directly to modem
www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.asp
Issue commands:
AT&F+VCID=1
wait for incoming call - if no caller id info appears in Hyperterminal, the modem doesn't support it.

Aloha! Richard.

Might also check modem in hyperterminal.
+FCLASS=? Service Class Capabilities

+FCLASS =? 0, 1, 8, 80

+FCLASS = 0 data

Caller ID is not displayed or displays "Unknown"
Your voice modem or telephony card might not support caller ID (not all do). Check your voice modem / telephony board manual. If you are using a voice modem, please see www.nch.com.au/ivm/modems.html for more information about voice modem caller name and ID support.
You need to set IVM to answer after at least 2 rings.
Your phone system may not have caller ID (sometimes you need to pay for the feature).
If you are using a PBX extension, your PBX might not support caller ID.
If you are using a Dialogic voice board change the Dialogic setup item "Report Call" to 3 which gives the Caller ID enough time to work.

Caller ID Requirements
If you want caller ID/Name display, you must purchase a modem that supports CID. Check the documentation of your modem.
It would appear that many modems detect CID but do not pass the information onto TAPI in a way that can be used by the IVM. It is not sufficient that CID is being reported to the software that comes with the modem. If it is not being reported to the IVM then it means that the drivers that are being used do not allow for this.
Zoom Modems and CID. If you are using a Zoom modem and have problems with Caller ID, contact zoom technical support. They have a new driver release that fixes a bug in that made CID fail
