RSHOOTER Tl Posts: 18 USA | Posted - 8/20/2004 8:10:10 AM This is the Modem that came with an HP XP system. Worked fine for a while and still does except for no sound at dial up, handshake, etc. Nothing is muted, sound card works although this is the Modem speaker. Reinstalled Driver with same results. Sound comes back for a few days and then is gone again. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

RSHOOTER Tl Posts: 18 USA | Posted - 8/20/2004 9:02:33 AM I tried MIL2 AS WELL AS M2 ...NEITHER WORKED. NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN BY L3. I also have the 8.31 version Driver...would 8.30 be better? Thanks. |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 8/20/2004 9:25:42 AM You have (MIL2) Need M1L2 L3 would be M1L3 this will set the speaker to high

RSHOOTER Tl Posts: 18 USA | Posted - 8/20/2004 9:28:46 AM Yes, sorry I meant M1L2 and M2. Neither worked. HP shipped with 8.31. I could go back to 8.30 but doubt that is this problem. |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 8/20/2004 9:40:21 AM What ISP do you use? The modem has it own speaker? http://www.modemsite.com/56k/speaker.asp

charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 8/20/2004 9:58:05 AM Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button. Then click on Settings, then Control Panel. Then double click on the Phone and Modem Options icon until it opens. Now click on the Modems tab at the top of the screen. Then click on the Properties button at the bottom right hand side of the screen. Now click on the Modem tab at the top of the screen. In the top center of the screen you will see the Speaker volume slider bar. Adjust this volume slider bar according to your personal preferences. Then click on the OK button to save your settings and exit the Modem properties window. Then close all open windows to return back to your Windows session. Then repeat the above procedure for any additional Dial-Up Connections you have. |
RSHOOTER Tl Posts: 18 USA | Posted - 8/20/2004 9:58:34 AM Sound from the Modem comes from within the PC not my external speakers which work fine. I use a local ISP for dial up. The Modem speaker box is checked for enabled. This is a new PC only a few months old. HP through India was no help. |

charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 8/20/2004 2:37:27 PM L3M1 is in the default modem string. This is the first HP pc that I have seen with the 8.31 drivers installed. This driver is on windows update.Do you have the command L3M1 in extra settings?Might try removing the connectoid in the dial up folder and make a new one.Do you have more that one dial up icon in the dialup folder? |
RSHOOTER Tl Posts: 18 USA | Posted - 8/20/2004 5:23:53 PM I just have the one icon. I am now operating the Modem with 8.30 I'm not sure I know how to do what you suggest and especially with the Version change. |
