OK, urgent help needed.

I'm on a AMD Athlon with Win XP Pro OS

My modem, NetoDragon 56K Voice Modem was down by lightning. Before I get a new modem, I tried to plug in my old PC's modem, a Motorola SM56 PCI SpeakerPhone which support Win2k. I installed the driver which seems not support Win XP. Now, I get a new modem, SmartLink 56k Voice Modem. I tried to uninstall the Motorola modem driver, but the uninstall didn't complete. I keep on with installing my new SmartLink driver.

DUN Error 678 and 777
When I click Connect or Dial, I can hear the modem dialing and can hear the "handshaking" noise. The handshaking noise can sometimes be longer than normal, but after about a minute I get the error popping up.

But sometimes (1 in 10) I managed to login but the connection is very, very slow seems like no respond at all. Then, the connection disconnected.

I suspect a damaged/corrupted modem drivers since my ISP is working well, my connection setting is OK, and I've the latest modem driver.

Any idea how to completely remove the corrupted drivers? Or there are any possible answers for my problem?

Thanks

charles

Did you remove the dial up connectoid in the dial up folder and make a new one, also look in the connect using window and make sure this modem is listed. Is the old modem showing in the device manager?

1. The modem isn't working. If external, powercycle it, if internal, reboot the computer.
2. Make sure the modem is plugged in securely. This includes external cables, and the PCI or ISA slot seating if internal.
3. Make sure the computer is not trying to dial multiple connections, that it has no fax software, etc using the modem.
Might try this. http://www.modem-help.co.uk/help/links.html#sm56
pci-sm56clean.exe - originally sourced from the Motorola site, it completely cleans the system of [virtually] all traces of the PCI version of the Motorola SM56 modem
