JessicaRose Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 8/31/2004 11:17:42 AM I was having trouble with my old version of Windows XP freezing up on me. It was doing this one day, and when I restarted it told me I had to import my Juno Internet account again. I tried, and it kept timing out and not connecting. I could hear beeps and churrings, it had called and reached the access numbers, but for some reason didn't realize it and timed out. (I even tried calling my home's telephone to see if it was dialing out properly, and it rang and my computer was on the other end.) Well, I wiped my computer and reinstalled a better version of Windows XP, hoping this would fix it. Well, it fixed everything else that was going or went wrong with my computer, but my modem still times out repeatedly. Not just to Juno, but to other generic 1-800 access numbers for service provider lists too. Any idea what may be wrong? |
JessicaRose Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 8/31/2004 11:35:23 AM Oops .. sorry, I forgot to post my modem info as I know it. Lucent Win modem on a card. When I queue my modem it tests with success. Could it be a bad driver? How would I know which one to install? |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 9/1/2004 1:38:03 AM Do you have voice mail? Please post a modem log and the ati11 results from hyperterminal. Is this a name brand pc like Dell,Compaq...ect. What driver version do you have installed. You can get this in hyperterminal with the ati3 command. Might also try modem in other slot. Go down to. Edited by - charles on 9/1/2004 8:09:24 AM |
JessicaRose Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 9/2/2004 6:39:03 AM Thank you for your reply. :) Luckily, I took screen shots of my modem's info last night. From its property box and system information, etc. In the properties diagonostic box of my modem, I did the query test and got the info from line AT13: I do not have voice mail on my phone line right now. Nor call waiting. Its just the basic run of the mill phone line. My computer was built for me by a friends husband. I do not know what brand it would be. If there is a place I could look for that info, I will if its needed. I tried both jacks for my modem (the line and phone jack just in case) to no avail. I also tried plugging the downstairs phone line into my computer, but that didn't work either. Thanks for any help or advice. :) Other info that may come in handy??? Driver File Details for Lucent Win Modem: From System Information under Modem: From System Information of my modem under Signed Drivers:

charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 9/2/2004 8:18:01 AM Try adding +MS=V90 to extra settings if that will not help try +MS=V34. Give us the ati11 results from hyperterminal and a modem log. From the connect using window click the pull down window and see if agere win modem is listed,if so change to that listed modem. The modem should be listed as Agere win modem not lucent. If you have a NIC card I would disable it in the device manager. |
JessicaRose Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 9/2/2004 8:44:26 AM "Try adding +MS=V90 to extra settings if that will not help try +MS=V34." How would I go about doing that? I am not computer illiterate by any means, but when it comes to the technical stuff, I am at a bit of a loss for much of it.
Figures ... my screenshot cuts off at the top at ati14. I'm making a note to check on that when I get to my home computer.
Where would I find "the connect using window"?

charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 9/2/2004 10:16:56 AM Go down to How to use ATi commands in Hyperterminal http://help.stargate.net/dialup/hyperterminal.shtml Do you get any error codes? modem log http://www.modemsite.com/56k/modemlog2k.asp Just click view log. |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 9/2/2004 10:24:58 AM Warning: During this step, you can choose between 11 digit, 10 digit dialing, or neither. If you do not select the phone number(s) you want before choosing the dialer format, it will default to 7 digit dialing. Make sure to select the number in the left-hand window before you choose the dialing option in the right-hand window The most common way our users connect is via a dial-up modem connection. To connect to Juno via a modem, ensure that the Use modem box is checked in the Connect Settings section. Additionally, if you have more than one modem configured on your system, you may select the modem you wish to use by clicking on the arrow to the right of the modem box and selecting your modem from the drop-down list.

charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 9/2/2004 11:04:45 AM To make sure the modem is not bad I would try a connection with hyperterminal. In hyperterminal. Type AT click enter Type AT&F click enter Type ATDTXXX-XXXX X would be the ISP number. click enter Should come to the log in screen,no need to log, click disconnect at the top of hyperterminal. |
JessicaRose Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 9/2/2004 11:30:14 AM Ok, I am going to print this all out and do the things I have not tried yet. Thank you. Here is what I know from checking yesterday however: There is another something using IRQ5 .. I forget exactly what it was called but it was Trident Video something I think. It and my modem both checked out as OK in the conflict windows in their property boxes though. I did a basic hyperterminal communication with my modem. (I forgot to print out all the commands available.) But I got to where I type in AT and it replied with OK. Jessica |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 9/2/2004 11:44:17 AM There is another something using IRQ5 Most of the time there is no problem here but if you have any free IRQ I would think about running ltremove.exe, shut down and put modem in other pci slot, boot up and install the modem. |
