Timbo Tl Posts: 9 USA | Posted - 9/3/2004 1:34:47 PM you know i used to have a net card installed but recently downgraded. if it was the net card will the bios thing do the trick? thanks |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 9/4/2004 12:56:54 AM Is the card still listed in the device manager? Yes it is called wake on lan or wol.

Timbo Tl Posts: 9 USA | Posted - 9/4/2004 6:27:11 AM no the net card is not still listed. and yes i disabled the wake on lan setting in the bios but ther was another one that said something like pvm wake or something with initials then said "wake" but i was affraid to disable that one. although disabling the wake on lan setting by itself has not solved the prob. got a call and computer booted up. can you help me please? it is the most annoying thing!! |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 9/4/2004 6:09:38 PM What are you running,xp,me,98...ect? Is there a setting in the bios for wor or wake on modem? Check the control for Allow this device to bring computer out of standby witch would be your modem. Check this: go into Start > Control Panel > Phone & Modem Options > Modems Tab > Select your modem, click on properties > Select the Power Management tab: Make sure the box labeled "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" is not checked.

Timbo Tl Posts: 9 USA | Posted - 9/5/2004 6:45:53 AM i went into the bios and had to try a few things but found that it was the "PME EVENT" option. disabled that and so far so good. thanks for all of your help. |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 9/5/2004 9:06:00 PM PME Event Wake Up is Power Management Event wakeup, which is used to wake up the system from suspend mode by pressing a key or moving a mouse. It must have interrupted the shutdown sequence by looking for certain events, mistakingly thinking that you wanted to do something else |
